Being a teenage mother is certainly not a walk in the park and deciding whether or not to have an abortion is a struggle that many teenager have to deal with. While I am not an advocate either way I can see where it might be a better alternative than babies raising babies. That’s one of the cool things about California. The law in California has a law that says parents can drop off their newborns no questions asked at fire stations and they still have two weeks to change their minds if they have to.
19-year-old Jessica Betts chose neither option. She waited until the baby was born and dumped it, umbilical cord still attached, in a dumpster behind a grocery store in Modesto, California. A guy happened to be dumpster diving shortly after and found the baby, dead but still warm to the touch. It was pronounced dead at the hospital.
An anonymous tip turned police on to Jessica Mae Betts, who has pleaded not guilty to murder and is being held on $1 Million bond. She is facing a maximum sentence of life in prison for the murder of her child.
