Shammarh Jenkins Beat The Baby

Update – Shammarh has been denied bond by a Henry County judge. The rest of the update is at the bottom of the post.
Another one in my area of the country. I ran across this story earlier in the evening but have been waiting for more information to be released prior to posting anything about it.
This past Friday around noon EMS responded to a 911 call at a house in McDonough. When they arrived they found a two-year-old girl with severe trauma to the head. She was life-flighted by helicopter to Children’s Health Care of Atlanta. Despite the valiant efforts of the health-care workers the little girl died from her injuries on Saturday afternoon.
From what I have gathered so far the toddler is possibly related to Shamika Jones, whose family was featured on a local news station earlier this year after they fell upon hard times. The Joneses drove to Atlanta from California last summer in order to start a new life and ended up homeless and living in their broken-down van.

Through perseverance as well as the initial help of some of the TV station viewers they were able to start getting back on their feet.
Police in Dekalb County have arrested Shammarh Tavon Jenkins, who apparently was living in the house, and then turned him over to Henry County where the crime happened. He was booked into the county jail shortly after midnight on Saturday night/Sunday morning and has been charged with Murder as well as Cruelty to Children in the First Degree.

An Autopsy on the two-year-old girl is to be performed on Monday at some time.

Updated – From what I’ve learned today, the two-year-old that was killed was Shammarh’s little sister Jayla Caton. He originally told his mother that Jayla fell and hit her head Friday at their house. Jayla died on Saturday and judging from the fact that Shammarh has been charged and arrested I would have to say that the head injuries aren’t consistent with just a fall.
The Henry County Department of Family and Children Services has taken Shammarh and Jayla’s other five siblings into their custody for the time being. Jenkins made his first court appearance this morning and a Henry County judge denied his bond.
