Thursday afternoon 26-year-old Michael Jon Ervin of Valrico, Florida rushed his two children, 17-month-old Zionna Ervin and 5-month-old Kaden Warren, to the emergency room. Both had extremely high temperatures and they were both pronounced dead at the hospital.
After interviewing several people as well as the medical records, which suggested that the two children had died from extreme environmental hyperthermia after being exposed to high temperatures for an extended amount of time, Mike Ervin (MySpace) was arrested at home and charged with 2 counts of Aggravated Manslaughter. He is currently lodged in the Hillsborough County Jail with no bond.
Child Protective Investigations Division has joined the investigation and has already had one prior investigation into the family although they won’t release any details on that.
Ervin has been arrested before on marijuana charges, theft and failure to appear and the mother, Enidlin Warren has been arrested twice although she was not prosecuted in either case. Neighbors in the area say that prior to 2007 there was always a lot of traffic to and from Ervin’s house, at all hours of the day and night and it didn’t stop until neighbors started taking down license plates and also contacted Ervin’s mother, who is the owner of the house.
I’m sure I’ll have some of the folks that know Mike stop in here over the next couple of days to bitch about my headline but here’s the deal…whether or not it was accidental (which I am pretty sure it was) or on purpose doesn’t matter. I don’t care. This is a prime example of why, although I despise the government interfering in ANYTHING, it should be harder to have kids. Christ, it can cost thousands of dollars, background checks and lots of time invested in order to adopt a kid, yet breeders like Ervin and his baby mama just pop them out at the drop of a hat.
