Updated 8/12/09: Faiz Al-Khayyal was arrested last night and charged with 15 counts of sexual exploitation of a child for the pornographic images that the GBI found on his work computer last week. He is currently being held without bond at the Fulton County Jail.
Original Post: The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating (hence the name…) allegations that Associate Professor Faiz Abdullah Al-Khayyal from Georgia Tech‘s School of Industrial and Systems Engineering downloaded child pornography off the Internet. Al-Khayyal is a native of Saudi Arabia who has been living in the United States since the late seventies and is maried to a U.S. Citizen.
The GBI raided Al-Khayyal’s office as well as his home and seized computers from both locations in order to see what he has on them. Georgia Tech has suspended Al-Khayyal without pay for the violation of the University’s computer use policy. Apparently GA Tech discovered the alleged use when a virus often associated with surfing for porn was found on his computer.
Obviously this is all alleged but they must have some pretty damning evidence already to have suspended him without pay.
