Just got home from spending the day with my eldest girl who will turn 12 this weekend while I am out of town and I came across this at Steve Huff’s Site. Seven-year-old Somer Renee Thompson has been missing and an Amber Alert has been issued in the state of Florida.
From the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children,
Somer was last seen walking near her school on the afternoon of October 19, 2009. She was last seen with her hair in a ponytail tied with a red bow, wearing a maroon sweatsuit with a pink stripe, and a black tee shirt. She was carrying a purple Hannah Montana backpack and lunchbox
As Steve noted this is the same general area (within about 50 miles) that Haleigh Cummings disappeared in earlier this year. Somer disappeared around 3:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon and her mother (as well as her father who is in North Carolina) is desperately pleading for her safe return.
According to the Clay County Sheriff there is no indication of a link between Somer’s disappearance and the attempted abduction of a five-year-old girl only a block away from where Somer was last seen. Two men and a woman in a blue Nissan SUV stopped and tried to get Kaylee Boothroyd to get in the car with them.
A neighbor came upon them and the SUV took off. Officers in Orange Park are keeping a lookout for the SUV but considering that the didn’t bother to notify Grove Park Elementary after it happened I don’t hold out much hope that they’ll find it.
Hopefully law enforcement or one of the many volunteers searching will find Somer and soon.
Updated 10/22/09 – Police are reporting that Somer Renee Thompson may have been located. More details here to follow.
