Two years later, a new search has taken place in Aruba related to the Natalee Holloway case. On Friday and Saturday police searched the Van der Sloot home, possibly for something specific. It’s nice to hear. I think that most of the public has given up on anything ever happening in the Holloway missing persons/murder investigation. I say murder as that is what most of us think has happened.
There are several videos from the news channels all up over at Blogs for Natalee if you are interested in checking them out.
I had several posts up back in 2005 on Natalee, and what sucks is that I had not even heard this news story at all. The reason I found out is that some of my old posts started getting quite a few hits, so I did a new search on it.

One thing that I was not aware of that has been brought to light (at least to me) is that Joran Van der Sloot has written a book. There is more information that can be found over at Scared Monkeys.

It was interesting looking at that last post (if she were black and poor) and the comments. All through the late nineties a series of 14-16 year old black girls in DC were being found missing and dead. After about the 10th one we’d heard about, my wife said she thought it was a serial killer. The news media never drew a connection, and it was always a blip on the screen — one report, for one night, then never mentioned again.
Your point was well taken — the mainstream media makes a big deal about what they think will get ratings, and apparently pretty white girls getting hurt is it. Just look at the difference in coverage between Jessica Lynch (captured by Iraqis for about a week, young pretty blond thing) and Matt Maupin (captured by Al Qaeda or some other extremists and missing permanently, young white male). Or even Lynch’s friend, whose name, sadly, I can’t even remember.
