Police in Missouri have arrested 36-year-old Matthew Lang of Godfrey, the band teacher at Alton High School for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old student. Lang has been charged with two counts of felony Sexual Assault and two counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse. According to police Lang had sex with the 16-year-old female student more than once during school hours.
This is Lang’s first year at Alton High School, having taught previously at O’Fallon Township High School. I haven’t yet found out why he switched schools.
Lang’s bond is currently set at $250,000 and is being held in the Madison County Jail in Edwardsville.
The previous band director at Alton that Lang replace, David Drillinger, was fired after he was charged with inappropriately touching students. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery.

What the hell?!? Are there any teachers NOT having sex with their students these days? Geez. It was not like this in my day – and I’m not that old. Seems like it gets worse every year.
I was one of his students at O’Fallon Township. Nice guy, as far as I could tell (before all this crazy stuff happened). We used to talk a lot, and as far as I am aware, he told me he was leaving O’Fallon because the administration and marching band parents at the school were too demanding for the work he wanted to do. I think there was a lot of heat between them because he wasn’t as adamant about keeping the marching band at top gear as they (the administration and parents) were.
i was one of his students as of freshman year. he quit o’fallon because he said that he needed to finish stuff at college, but apparently he was touching/whatevering a student here also, but there wasn’t enough evidence, so the band moms and parents strongly suggested he quit, which he did.
You might be interested to know he is actually married to one of his former students. Matt Lang has been fooling around with his students for YEARS.
Tsk tsk tsk, Matt Lang. With his air of entitlement, this does not surprise me at all. He was band director at PBL for a year. I never heard what happened there but it can’t be good. Shame on you, Matt Lang. Hope you rot for hurting young people who look up to you.
