60-year-old Mayor Donald Walker of Warner Robins, GA has been the mayor of that town since 1994 and during his term in office he has overseen a growth boom in the town of approximately 50,000 people. Walker was found dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound Monday. His wife was home at the time of the incident.
I’ve come across nothing but good comments and well wishes for his wife while I read about Walker this morning and really the only thing I could find thus far that might be related is that over the last couple of years he has had some health issues. He took a medical leave of absence in September 2008 after the city council asked him to.
Rest in peace, Donald Walker.
Updated 10/17/09 – According to WSB Patricia Walker interviewed with a local TV station recently. According to Donald Walker’s wife he saw a legal notice in a Houston County Newspaper three days before his death that the IRS had placed $33,845 in liens against his properties.
He was very upset about the liens and other people finding out about them and felt that may have attributed to Walker’s suicide.
