28-Year-Old Joshua Ironshell of Lincoln, Nebraska, the owner of Crave Ink, a tattoo shop in Lincoln, has been arrested and charged with allegedly beating his girlfriend’s two-year-old boy Darrek to the point where he fractured the boy’s back and put him into seizures.
According to the arrest affidavit Joshua was in the shower with the two-year-old when he started beating the boy so hard that both slipped and fell. He held the little boy up by one arm while he hit the child’s back, legs and buttocks. The mother found Ironshell and her son in the bathroom and there was blood on the floor where the child had bitten Ironshell’s hand. He ended up having to perform CPR on Darrek to revive the boy. Ironshell and the incubator noticed the severe bruising on the boy’s back and groin but fearing that they would be arrested they waited to seek medical attention until he started having seizures a few days later.
The boy ended up being flown to Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha because he was not responsive and was having problems breathing, where he was treated for spinal fractures, subdural hematoma (bleeding on the brain) and various bruises and abrasions.
Ironshell has admitted to police that he severely “spanked” the toddler resulting in his hospitalization.
Joshua Ironshell was arrested for Assault and Felony Child Abuse and was lodged in the Lancaster County Jail on $50,000 bond. He has a previous record for assault and drug charges. 19-year-old woman, Katrina Darasouk, the mother, was charged with child abuse
Darrek has been released from the hospital (the incident occurred in September) and although he is having vision problems and a tough time keeping his balance he is improving and is in foster care.
Updated 11/17/22 – Joshua B. Ironshell ended up being convicted of 5 to 10 and serving just under four years for Felony Child Abuse and a misdemeanor prior conviction. He was released on April 30th 2014. Darasouk pleaded no contest to the child abuse charge and received intensive probation.
