Just came across something online that I didn’t think I would ever see again. “Casey Anthony” is trending on Twitter right now.
Seem’s there’s a three-part documentary coming on Peacock at the end of the month called Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies.
Wow.
Apparently the whole thing is told through Casey’s account of the investigation and trial and everything that happened after.
According to the filmmaker, Casey was not involved in the research or development of the show but also said (Alexandra Dean, the filmmaker) “Since her acquittal in 2011, public opinion of Casey Anthony has been largely shaped by the media convinced of her guilt. Casey had never given an in-depth or on-camera interview explaining her actions until now, and as a filmmaker and journalist, my interest was in getting closer to the unbiased truth by hearing all sides of the story – from opposing voices to Casey herself”
I wrote extensively in 2008 and 2009 about Caylee Anthony and while I am neither any sort of investigator or journalist and my opinion is most likely also shaped by the media coverage as well, I have always felt she was guilty. Certainly wouldn’t be the first time I was wrong. There are a lot of theories out there and possibly things that could have happened.
Dean also goes on to say “While having access to Casey was critical, it was even more important that we had complete editorial control over the outcome of the reporting we did. Casey did not see or give notes on the film. What emerges over the course of multiple interviews recorded over six months, is a startling psychological portrait of Casey Anthony and a complete narrative of what she says happened to her daughter weighed against multiple sources of potential evidence. I believe the result will surprise many, and cause the American public to look at this story in a new light.”
Monkeys might fly out of my ass too.
I have yet to decide if I am going to watch this or not. I will probably mark it for a maybe.
Shit like this is hugely popular and I am sure the makers are happy with that. In the trailer below the interviewer asks Casey Anthony, “Why talk to me now when you are not getting creative control”.
I asked myself the same question. Relevancy, fame, MONEY? Was this a free set of interviews and if not, how much was she paid?
She did do an interview with Josh Replogle of the Associated Press about five years ago. I know it’s on Youtube but I don’t believe I have every watched it.
During the rabbit hole I went down while I was writing this (are you surprised?) I came across this video entitled The Most Bizarre Things About the Casey Anthony Case. While nothing groundbreaking I did learn some things I wasn’t aware of since I haven’t done much writing over the last ten years.
While this will be trending for a day this week and probably then again at the end of the month, the bottom line I need to remember is that for all the “true crime” and sensationalist stories about Casey Anthony, the investigation, media circus and trial; the biggest thing for me is that this was all about Caylee Anthony which is why it’s her picture and not Casey’s, that graces the top of this page.
