We spent about an hour at the playground. I am pretty whipped, considering that my three year old dragged me around EVERYTHING. We had a good time though, and fifteen or twenty years from now I don’t want to find myself saying shit like “I wish I had played with my kids more actively instead of just watching them”.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… I attended AA for several years. Mostly Narcotics Anonymous, but AA as well. After about nine or ten years, I decided that I needed to get involved in service, to give something back. I ended up being the Policy Chair for my area. Sitting in meetings, reading Robert’s Rules of Order back to front and front to back, and…making policy. First thing I did was retype the damn thing, which was mostly hand-written. After awhile I decided that it need fleshing out. MORE rules. MORE clarification of the rules and regulations about how we did shit. It took a few months and I finally realized that what I was doing was ridiculous. Who gives a shit anyway. Policies and procedures, like the US Constitution, begin as simple things. They are NOT living documents, evolving to meet our needs. They are simple guidelines to follow, and don’t need to be fucked with.
That’s the damn problem wth congress now. They are so busy making new rules and regulations when we already have most of the ground rules that we need in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. It’s easy. Don’t kill your neighbor unless he is trying to kill you, in which case we can dispense with all the niceties and get it over with. Don’t steal from other people. Don’t fight (or spy) for the other side. Mind your own damn business about what I do in my own home and I will do the same. Vote for the people that DON’T want to be in congress. See. Simple. Would solve 90% of our problems, end the war on drugs, and actually get the shit done that needs doing. Tell you what. If we were to make government service unattractive enough that they wouldn’t want to serve more than a term or two, they would only worry about the really important stuff and get the fuck out.
The solution would be to take away the ability to give themselves pay increases. Pay them an average wage based on other local government employees, such as Police, Firefighters, and Teachers and see what happens. Most people would want to server about as little as they want to serve jury duty. Hell, there’s another solution, government by lottery (limited to people who either own property, or have had a job for at least ten years). If you sit on the government dole making your living through welfare checks, you don’t get to serve OR vote. In my world anyway.

Finally was able to get my scanner to work, maybe I will start scanning all of our old photo albums again. Thanks again to those of you who supported MDA.

…Actually I have allowed myself to be sucked into the annual MDA lock-up stuff. I am supposed to come up with a crap-load of money prior to June 22nd, so if you have a couple of extra bucks and nothing better to waste it on, click on the link below. I got a check in the mail for $25 from one of the guys I used to work with at our corporate office. Damn, come on ya cheap bastids, send me $2 or something. It’s a frigging tax deduction.

Well, all done now, except for a couple of checks that I picked up after the thing today. I ended up raising around $450 total, which isn’t too bad considering that most of the donations were in the vicinity of $25 and that I suck doing this kind of stuff. It was held at one of the local restaurants, they supplied food and drink for the couple of hours that I was there. One of the local cops picked me up from my store this morning, and then I got to ride back in a stretch limo, which is something that I have never done. I have a pic that I will post if I can ever get the scanner going. Had to hook it to my wife’s pc since I have rebuilt mine four times in the last two weeks, but that is a whole nuther story.

Congress was unable to pass a mimmum wage bill, needing at least eight more votes in the senate. While it would be nice for wages to go up, including mine, the reality of the situation is that if minimum wage were to go, it would effect my business a little bit. Most of the folks that work for me make 6.80-9.00/hr. There would be a few that would grumble about not making much more than minimum wage, they are more than welcome to go to work somewhere else. I would be a lot more hesitant to hire new people, as trainees get paid mimimum wage and I am not prepared to spend more money than I already do. I might end up cutting a couple of cooks that work for me, at least the lower paid ones, as I am not going to spend more payroll funds than I already do.

It’s been kind of quiet around here the last couple of evenings. Christopher is working 2nd shifts lately, and Stephanie and the girls are at vacation bible school. (I am sure that there is some kind of oxymoron in the term Vacation Bible School, but I have to behave myself when speaking around the girls). I have had the time to actually post a bit and check out a few blogs.

Alas, but the nice evening has to end sometime. I have to go back to work in a few minutes and do cash and commisary audits and get all of my paperwork in order before I go on vacation. If I don’t do it now, I will never get the chance. It will be nigh upon the Fourth of July weekend before I get back to work, which is fairly busy for us, and my boss goes on vacation the 5th which means that I have to assume her duties. Hopefully there will be a manager trainee available that week to actually assume mine, or at least be a general ass in my store.

I was just visiting Rob’s site and decided to post a comment to his post on Congressional pork. The comment itself just consisted of:
“At least with the $2 whore you are paying for what you actually receive, unlike congress.”
Up pops this message box: Your comment was denied for questionable content. Questionable content my ass. ha. There are only a few sites I visit that have questionable content (excluding mine which is sometimes questionable in both substance as well as taste) and Gut Rumbles happens to fucking be one of them.
