Here's some shit

hehehe
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – A Democratic group crucial to John Kerry’s presidential campaign has paid felons – some convicted of sex offenses, assault and burglary – to conduct door-to-door voter registration drives in at least three election swing states.
America Coming Together, contending that convicted criminals deserve a second chance in society, employs felons as voter canvassers in major metropolitan areas in Missouri, Florida, Ohio and perhaps in other states among the 17 it is targeting in its drive. Some lived in halfway houses, and at least four returned to prison.

Almost vacation time

Damn, almost here again. Haven’t gone anywhere since my damn van broke down in Virginia last June, just basically sat on my ass the last two or three vacations. I am ready as hell for this one. Going to see S friend in Hilton Head Island, woot. If we could only ditch the kids it would be even better. Almost pointless though, since she has six children. What the hell, six or nine, once you hit more than one, it’s the same loudness level anyhow.

Losing your freedom

WASHINGTON (AP) – A sharply divided Supreme Court ruled Monday that people who refuse to give their names to police can be arrested, even if they’ve done nothing wrong.
The court previously had said police may briefly detain people they suspect of wrongdoing, without any proof. But until now, the justices had never held that during those encounters a person must reveal their identity.
The court’s 5-4 decision upholds laws in at least 21 states giving police the right to ask people their name and jail those who don’t cooperate. Law enforcement officials say identification requests are a routine part of detective work.

I don’t have any kind of eloquent argument against this, I will leave that to all the other bullshit artists. but to me this just means giving away more of my freedom and personal property rights. The more rights and freedom that you give away to “protect” yourself eventually lead to not being free OR protected.
One of the arguments that led to this narrow decision was that in this “day of terroists” we would be protecting the terrorists and other criminals by not doing this.

Happy Father's Day and Happy Birthday to Shadowscope

Pretty nice weekend. I am actually off this weekend, got a nice Relic watch for Father’s Day, and the blog is one year old today. Shadowscope has actually been around for six years or so, and six more before that as a BBS. It has gone through a boatload of changes over the last couple of years as I settle on a format for the site.

Finished it when I got home this afternoon. Damn, ready for the last one and it is not due until September. That just sucks. Guess I will have to read the whole series as well as related books a couple of weeks before it is released. Very good book.
