Ahmadinejad's Columbia Appearance Sparks Protest

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s scheduled appearance at Columbia University is fueling a debate about whether or not the academic institution should grant the contreversial leader to express his opinions.

In an interview on TV this morning he is claiming that they are neither building a nuclear bomb nor headed to war with the United States.

Well, you have to appreciate we don’t need a nuclear bomb. We don’t need that. What need do we have for a bomb? In political relations right now, the nuclear bomb is of no use. If it was useful it would have prevented the downfall of the Soviet Union.

He also said that…

“It’s wrong to think that Iran and the U.S. are walking toward war. Who says so? Why should we go to war? There is no war in the offing.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

He has a point there about the Soviet Union but that was an entirely different issue with a different government. I do think that if we go to war it will be because we start it.

As far as his appearance at Columbia University I am all for differing viewpoints but how can we let someone speak to our students that wants to wipe Israel of the planet and claims that the holocaust never happened? Ahmadinejad claims that  Iran wants nothing mor e than peace and friendship with the United States and for most of the citizens of Iran that might be true and it may even be true for the President himself but unfortunately he is just a mouthpiece because he is not really in control of Iran. That distinction goes to the Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who has the last word in all policies in Iran and also has control of the military.

Ahmadinejad is an outspoken critic of the George W. Bush Administration and supports strengthened relations between Iran and Russia, Cuba, Venezuela, Syria and the Persian Gulf states. He has supported Iran’s nuclear program declaring it is for peaceful purposes in spite of contrary demands by the United Nations Security Council to end it. He was condemned internationally for calling for Israel to be “wiped off the map,” and described the Holocaust as a myth, leading to accusations of antisemitism. In response to these criticisms, Ahmadinejad said “No, I am not anti-Jew, I respect them very much.”

While liberal educators and the U.N. General Counsel are busy playing footsy with Ahmadinejad the Supreme Leader (as he is known) is busy laying plans for the destruction of Israel because in the eyes of Iran Israel is an abomination.

He also requested that he be able to lay a wreath at Ground Zero. That request was denied by the city of New York and rightly so since Iran is one of the financial backers for many terrorist groups.

Same Old Song And Dance…

I am getting ready to lose one of my cooks at the store I don’t have a manager, which pretty much sucks. He just went through drug rehabilitation but has not been able to get his community service done in the time allotted and will be spending at least 30 days in jail and maybe 60. I don’t understand exactly what it is he’s been doing but I guess he must have though he had better things to do. If I still have a slot open when he gets out he will get to keep his job but I am doing my best to go ahead and get it covered as I don’t particularly want to be working more than I already am.
