Computer Hell

Managed to get one computer going. Had to replace the modem, and do a wipe and reinstall of 98se. Now that I have been running 2000 or XP since the beta versions in 99 I hate Windows 98. The second PC was worse. I have replaced the hard drive and done a reinstall (several days ago), but then the PSU fan went out. Dug out and old AT PSU from my basement, it won’t work. Will have to look and see what I have this afternoon.

I ended up pulling the hard drive out of my HTPC. Luckily it is still under warranty from Maxtor. Should have a new HD in a couple of days. Lost a bunch of TV shows, mainly kids stuff though. The only ones that make a big difference to me are the entire Farscape library, and I have them on a networked drive. Think I will see about backing those up tonight just to be on the safe side. My neighbor brought his computer over last night. Looks like his CD drive is fried, so he tried to take it apart to clean it (haha), and hooked the ide cables up backwards and couldn’t get it to boot. Will pick up a CD today and swap it out for him this evening I guess.

Anna has a performance at the PTO meeting tonight, so I may not get as much done as I though I would.

Computer problems

Goddam hard drives. One of my newest drives is going out on my htpc, and has the entire system fucked up. I am probably going to have to pull one of the drives out of my pc to replace it with. Already behind, trying to work on someone else’s pc. Damn this pisses me off. Lost a shitload of video, and about 4000 mp3s. Luckily I think I have them all backed up, at least the music, if not the video.

More Beer

…or not. Got home from work around 6pm last night. Seems like no big deal until you figure that I left for work at 5:30 yesterday morning. Hung out with Stephanie and the kids, and watched some TV that I missed during the week. Drank too many beers (which means 3 or 4 for me). My fucking head hurts this morning. I went ahead and got up so that I could do a little work around the houes. I promised Chris that I would take him to see Sin City, so I bought tickets last night at Fandango. Shit, movie prices went up again since I have been. $6.50 for Matinee. I also have another computer to fix for someone. Have to do a win 98 reinstall after I back up some pictures and stuff. Then have another to work on. Had to replace the hard drive, and need to go down to the basement and dig up a damn AT power supply, her fan went out.

Unfortunately I only have one day off, then have to work two, then get another, then I go seven before I can take another day off. Not sure how I managed to get roped into it, but all of the middle and upper management are going to be out of town at a retreat Tuesday and Wednesday, so I get to run the damn division. That should be ok Tuesday, but Wednesday is going to be a goatfuck. Have to hit 9 stores in seven hours and make sure that the weekly paperwork is done, and close it out myself in a couple of cases. I also get my big delivery Wednesday, and of course Stephanie has class, so I have to be finished and picking the kids up by 3:40. I must be a dumbass for agreeing to run it those two days. I’m not even the senior manager. Maybe all total if you don’t count the three years that I spent at the corporate office, but that is besides the point.

Guess I will check my email and bank balance and get my ass moving.

The Pope is dead

I heard from a customer earlier, that Pope John Paul II has died. Now that I have had a chance to get home I see that it is true. Doesn’t mean a hell of a lot to me, just that a world leader has passed away, but my wife and her family are catholic, so I suppose it is much more important. I called her to let her know. I am more interested in seeing who they pick as the next Pope. I will certainly try to follow that. I remember when he became the pope, but I was 12 at that time, so alot of what I remember is skewed by a 12 year olds memories, which are always larger than life.

More on the Fairtax

George Will posted a very good article on the National Sales Tax. A good read.

Scumbags

Dog Snot Diaries
Cut off their hands and ears and rip out their tongues. Stick them in the county jail with signs on their uniforms that say “Child Molester” (becuase what else is this but a different form of molestation). See how long they last. Hopefully at least a couple of months before someone finally sticks a knife in their backs.
Hell, you don’t even have to waste the money to stick them in jail. Bring back the fucking town stock. Want to increase traffic back into downtown areas? Chain a child beater up next to the main drag. I’ll fucking be there.

Girder 101

This is a good page if you are interested in adding Girder (or have been afraid) to your HTPC setup.

What is Girder

National ID Card

I just can’t get my head around this. I most definately don’t agree. We already have plenty of ID cards, just do like the State of Georgia is trying to get passed, and require photo ID (drivers license, etc). The Federal Government already has plenty (too much) information about us as it is. It should be none of their fucking business how much I make, where I want to live, etc.

Getting ready to install the Microsoft® “Avalon” and “Indigo” Community Technology Preview. If my system crashes and I don’t post for a couple of days, that is what the problem is.

FBI wants radical logs

Slashdot | FBI Demands Logs From Radical Website
sunbird writes “The details are as yet unclear due to a gag order, but apparently the FBI is once again demanding IP logs from dissident webservers. The sysadmin for flag.blackened.net, best known for hosting infoshop.org and the Anarchist FAQ has responded to an FBI request for server logs. Although he cannot reveal the details of the request due to the gag order, the sysadmin has issued an informal press release discussing his reasons for turning over the information.

Perhaps he didn’t want to go to fucking jail. Hahaha
