The wife and the Marine had to run to Douglasville this morning. They are going ahead and getting some Christmas shopping taken care of this morning at the Mall. She hates going to the mall even more than she hates shopping but it’s one of those things I suppose.

I was reading this story over at CNN last night about one mall where the police are really creating a presence and they had some news crews out there filming some of the things people would do. Purses and phones in plain view in their cars, expensive gifts left in eyeshot and even worse, some of them wore open.

Even if you keep your stuff locked in the trunk there is still the danger of it coming up missing. This time of year criminals are out because they know that people hide stuff in their cars. That can make a car more of a target and even effect your car insurance policy.

I had to get online last night and renew my car insurance. The company had called me day before yesterday and told me I had underpaid them by $15 by mistake so I had to get on their site. Most of them allow you to pay online which certainly makes life easier. Fifteen years ago it would have just been canceled and I would have had to deal with going out and getting car insurance quotes and renewing the policy. Cheap car insurance is easy to find but I prefer to keep the same company rather than having to switch every couple of years.

Just pretty much trying to stay awake now. I have to drive in to Atlanta in an hour and a half or so to pick up my son at the Greyhound station and have been up for about 20 hours now.

This looks pretty cool. I have enjoyed the movies from Marvel the last few years and this looks pretty neat.

I guess the trailer has been out for a while but this was the first time I have come across it.

I don’t know what crawled up my ass and died last night but boy was I in a foul mood while I sat here and type until 11:15 when I should have already been in bed. Nobody pissed me off and nothing particularly bad happened yesterday once you get past the part where I had to crawl out of bed. Just one of those things I suppose. That whole teenage pregnancy thing seems to have touched a vein. Perhaps because my eldest daughter is now ten and I am sure that it will be clobberin’ time on some teenage boys in a few years. If I start selling skin colored lampshades ala Daughmer you’ll know why…Don’t say I didn’t warn ya’

We had our company Christmas party last night. It was held at the same venue as last year, Classic on Noble in Anniston, Alabama. Dinner was nice and there were a few nice gifts and games. It’s pretty nice to see some of the folks that I don’t get to see all of the time. It ran a bit late so we didn’t make it home until around 10 PM or so. The girls were happy to be picked up and it gave me a chance to try and recruit the dad of the house for work. He’s got around 20 years of restaurant experience and in need of a decent paying job now. I am lousy at recruiting people so hopefully he’ll bite. I need to turn in my card for promotion in about three months and they have been on my ass to hire someone anyway…That would go a long way toward a bit of good will on my side.

I am crossing my fingers and hoping that I don’t have my normal Thursday meeting this afternoon. I wouldn’t mind getting a bit of shut-eye this afternoon since I have to leave the house around midnight and make the drive to Atlanta. Why, you ask?

The Marine is home for two weeks! His Greyhound pulls in to Atlanta at 1 AM or thereabouts and I will be waiting for him amidst the crack-heads and winos. It’s bad enough to go down to the Garnett area during the daytime, but at 1 AM. Fucking crazy…

We spoke with him the other night and he was pretty pissed off. Apparently one of the Marines had screwed something up so they canceled every liberty for EVERYONE, made them do a bunch of cleaning, and just to make sure nobody left base they were calling formation every hour on the hour until 0300. That’s fucking three o’clock in the morning for those of you not in the know.

…and this for the boy who would sleep in half the day…

Jamie Lynn Spears, the 16-year-old “Zoey 101? star and sister of Britney, told OK! magazine that she’s pregnant and that the father is her boyfriend, Casey Aldridge.

“It was a shock for both of us, so unexpected,” she said. “I was in complete and total shock and so was he.”

Updated 10:55 PM – Apparently the paparazzi caught Britney Spears unawares at which point in time she denied that her sister was pregnant. What a way to find out that your 16-year-old sister is pregnant.

Jamie Lynn Spears told OK! Magazine that she plans on raising the baby at home in Louisiana away from the bright lights of show business. Somehow I don’t guess there is any place in Zoey 101’s world for a baby anyhow.

BlondeBlogger sees it a bit from Spear’s point of view. I was a pretty crappy teenager myself and never used condoms but that certainly doesn’t mean I will even remotely seem to condone it. My son made it to the Marine Corps a virgin and we are trying to instill the same values in our girls as we did with him. The fact is that if either of them make it to 18 a virgin I will consider myself lucky, but either way they are damn sure going to use protection for the simple fact that pregnancy aside, there is some mean shit to be caught out there. It’s not like it was 20+ years ago.

Israel Mireles Arrested

According to CNN, the suspected killer in the murder of online model and so-called ‘secret porn star’ Emily Sander/Zoey Zane has been arrested in Mexico. According to the United States Marshal’s service, Israel Mireles was arrested in Melchor Muzquiz, Mexico, which is southwest of Texas on a homicide warrant from Butler County. Mireles is being held in a Mexican jail until he can be extradited to the United States.

Sander was last seen alive on November 23rd after she left an El Dorado bar with a man identified as Mireles.

There is no word so far on whether Victoria Martens was with Mireles or not when he was arrested.

Another Update – 10:50 PM According to this report from Newscom Victoria Martens was found unharmed and in good health. Still don’t know if she will be charged as an accessory or not.

On June 14, 2005 SSgt. Mike Mills’s life was forever changed. The HETT(Heavy Equipment Transport System) he was riding in was hit by an IED. The attack resulted a cracked clavicle and scapula bones, dislocate shoulder, broken left hip, 4 out of 5 bones broken in his foot and being set on fire. The driver in the truck behind him ran with a cooler of melted ice which he threw on Sgt. Mills to put him out.
 
He spent three months in the Brooks Army Medical Center at Ft. Sam Houston, TX with the injuries listed above plus 2nd, 3rd and deep tissue burns to 31% of the left side of his body. The first thing he remembers thinking after the attack was that his soldiers needed him and he needed to get back to them.
 
“Then the guilt set in about what I did to my family. I’ve totally screwed that up. Look at me, no don’t. I look hideous. How can I face my kids looking like this. They’ll be embarrassed to be seen with me. What if they won’t love me anymore? Speaking of love, my wife, oh my god. How can I expect her to stay with me. I’m not a man anymore. She’s not going to want be intimate with a freak. What if I can’t work, how do I support myself, my family.
 
I had the nightmares and couldn’t sleep. I wasn’t eating and was loosing weight. I didn’t really care. If I didn’t start eating, they where going to put the feeding tube back in. Who cares, I’ve totally screwed up my life anyways.”
 
But he found out just how much is wife loved him, when she stood by his side throughout the entire ordeal. She was there for every wound dressing and even learned how to change the dressings herself.
 
SSgt. Mike Mills now runs the site For The Veteran… By A Veteran in which he helps veterans, soldiers and their families find information they may not have been given after their medical discharge or retirement.
 
 
 
Some may say that Mike gave his country more than enough when he was severely maimed by an IED on that fateful day of June 14, 2005, but Mike continues to give to his fellow servicemen, as well as to his nation!
 

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero. We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived
