UPS just dropped off the latest Alan Dean Foster book. Hell yeah. I have been reading the Pip and Flinx books since I was pretty young, and always look forward to the new ones when they come out (which is not often enough).
Entertainment
Movies
Got in my new bath of movies from Netflix. Think I will veg out and watch Pitch Black for awhile.
Gilligan Dead at 70
Actor Bob Denver, well known for the role of Gilligan, has died at the age of 70. I don’t watch much in the way of Television, but as a kid, of course, I loved Gilligans Island.
Top 100 Songs from 1985
Saw this meme about songs from the year that I graduated (or should have graduated, in my case), and just felt like doing it.
The rules:
1) Go to musicoutfitters.com and, in the search box provided, enter the year you graduated high school.
2) From the search results, click the link for the top 100 songs of that year.
3) With the resulting list:
a) bold the songs you like,
b) strike through the ones you hate
c) underline your favorite
d) and ignore the ones you don’t remember/don’t care about.
Results are in the extended entry.
No more Bond for Brosnan
I’ve always loved James Bond. I started reading Ian Fleming’s novels when I was about nine or ten years old, and moved on to the movies after that. IMHO Pierce Brosnan made the best Bond since Sean Connery. I am sorry to see him leave the role. Hopefully they will find someone else as good at it.
Bert really IS evil
OMFG!! I am sitting here getting ready to take my three year old to school, look up and who is on Sesame Street? James Gandolfini (Tony Soprano). I was really hoping that he would take out Bert, but no such luck.
Deadwood
As I’ve posted before, I don’t watch a whole lot of television. I was over at HBO’s web site to see when the new season of Sopranos (one show that I do watch) begins, and saw that they have renewed Deadwood for a third season. Cool beans. It is supposed to start production later this year and air sometime in 2006.
MD.45 (Original)
I received my copy of the MD.45 album, The Craving (1996) today. It is interesting to compare the original version with Lee Ving singing lead to the re-mastered copy with Dave Mustaine singing that I downloaded from iTunes last month. I like them both, still not sure which one I like most. I like Dave, but Lee Ving is pretty cool. I have always enjoyed Fear. I linked the official site, not much there yet, but hopefully soon. It has changed slightly since I was there last a couple of weeks ago, now has the link to be added to the mailing list.
I camped out too….
…on my fucking couch.
Harry Potter
Yes, I went and did it. I am a big Harry Potter fan (all of us here are), so I pre-ordered it several months ago. It arrived yesterday, Christopher finished reading it this morning, and I am now about a third of the way through. Probably would have been through, but we went to see my grandmother at her birthday party today. That was nice. My grandmother (Mimi) was there, along with my great-aunt, my family, my parents, and my mom’s two sisters.
Anyway, I grew up reading Tove Jannsen’s (sp?) Moominland books, as well as the Taran books, the Chronicles of Narnia, and of course, The Lord of the Rings. Harry Potter reminds me a bit of all of them. Just fun to read. Nothing too serious.
