Disney October 2005 020.jpg

Vacation!

So I am officially on vacation for the next ten days! Didn’t think this would ever get here. The wife has to work today and as soon as she gets home this afternoon we’ll be leaving. We will most likely be staying overnight in Lake City Florida and then drive the rest of the way to Disney in the morning. The last time we made the trip we left the house at 3am and by the time we got there we were so wiped out that neither of us wanted to do a darn thing.

I will try to keep updates on a semi-regular basis while I am gone.

Tramp Stamp Tuesday

Lower back tattoo, also known as a tramp stamp or California license plate.

Pre-Vacation Tramp Stamp. Although I will be out of town next week, rest assured that next Tuesday’s post will be up 🙂

This week’s tramp stamp comes from, believe it or not, wikipedia. Hehe.

…and then there were two…

…days that is.
Only one if you don’t count today.
One more day of work.
My Area Vice President came in and spent about half the day in the store where I was working today. I told him that I was pretty much worthless and that I was actually already in Florida. It’s a pretty big stretch to keep focused on the task at hand and make myself get things done but somehow I am managing it. I did hit the door about a quarter after one this afternoon and went to the gym. I spent so much time waiting on the phone for my managers to get me their numbers I ended up not being able to work out anyway so I just came home and have been hanging out here.
We have started packing in preparation for the trip. Normally we aren’t gone for quite so long so the dog is going to the kennel and a friend of ours will be feeding the cat and checking on the place for us.

All the girls have been talking about the last day or so is going to Disney World. That’s OK, we are probably looking forward to it just as much as they are.

Aaargh…By God!

At the last minute (like after I had posted this) I decided to use it as my Odd Shots on Monday post. You can’t get much more odd than the photo below…

I’ve done all kinds of funny stuff as a parent to entertain my children, not the least of which is to dress up. Normally it’s just for Halloween and although I might claim it’s for my kids I have just as much fun doing it.

When I posted about the Renaissance Festival I mentioned that we had picked up costumes. I already had the shirt but got a vest as well and have picked up the boot tops recently at some pirate costume shop online. The stuff isn’t like high quality leather or anything but the price is right. Basically what you would pay at Wal-Mart for cheapo toys.

Pirate Costume 002

I am going to have to use some string or something to hold the damn boot tops up, either that or trade in the shorts for a pair of pants that I can tuck in. That would surely hold them up.

Go ahead and laugh. I am thinking about putting this on at the top of my sidebar for awhile! By the way, if you are interested in participating in Odd Shots, go check out Katney’s Kaboodle!

Wednesday Hero

Sgt. John F. Thomas
Sgt. Ronnie L. Shelley

Sgt. John F. Thomas(Right) & Sgt. Ronnie L. Shelley, Sr.(Left)
33 & 34 years old from Valdosta, Georgia
2nd Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment, 48th Infantry Brigade, Georgia Army National Guard
July 24, 2005 & July 30, 2005
Army National Guard
Sgt. Ronnie “Rod” Shelley and Sgt. John F. Thomas became best friends in the Georgia Army National Guard.
They both were ex-Marines, both about the same age, and both enjoyed searching for arrowheads and fishing together. As their friendship grew, Thomas often came over to Shelley’s house for steaks and ribs barbecued by his friend. And when their infantry unit was sent to Iraq in May of 2005, they went to war together.
When their unit was mobilized for combat duty in Iraq, Shelley promised to watch out for Thomas. “Ronnie said, ‘Don’t you worry, I’ll bring him back safely,”‘ said Thomas’ grandfather. But neither Sgt. Thomas or Sgt. Shelley made it back safely. Sgt. Thomas was killed July 24, 2005 by a roadside bomb near Baghdad. And Sgt. Shelley was killed six days later on July 30 by another roadside bomb, also near Baghdad.
Shelley was a family man, married with three children, who was obsessed with having a neat yard, his wife said. “The grass had to be two inches,” she said. “If the neighbor mowed the grass, Rod had to mow. He also wanted the biggest, baddest lawn mower.”
She said she fell in love with his “gorgeous blue … eyes,” and “he had a laid back attitude. I could not make him mad.”
Thomas was married but had no children. His grandparents said he dreamed of becoming a forest ranger. “John wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail. Now the only trail he can walk is the trail in heaven,” the grandfather said.
Mrs. Thomas, wiping back tears, said the soldier felt responsible for the others in his unit. “He cared for people,” she said. “That’s why he had so many friends. People cared for him.”
Killed alongside Sgt. Shelley were Staff Sgt. David R. Jones Sr., Sgt. 1st Class Victor A. Anderson and Sgt. Jonathon C. Haggin and killed alongside Sgt. Thomas were Army Spc. Jacques E. Brunson, Army Staff Sgt. Carl R. Fuller and Army Sgt. James O. Kinlow.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.
We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived

Braves or Sox?

Turner Field - Atlanta Braves play here - player memorial numbers

Image via Wikipedia

I used to love going to see the Atlanta Braves. The wife and I both enjoy going but it’s pretty rare to get to a game. I managed to go to one last season with the guys (and gals) from work but that’s it in the last couple of years. My oldest girl also enjoys going and she is finally at the age where she might be able to sit through an entire game.

Even though I live out in West Georgia I grew up in and around the Roswell area and one of my best friends was originally from Boston. He was a huge Boston fan. We never did get to go but either of us would have killed to get Boston Red Sox Tickets when they came to Atlanta to play the Braves. The only question would be which side to sit on…

One pretty place online that looks pretty good to get tickets is Mongo tickets. In addition to the Sox you can get tickets for other sporting events such as Dallas Cowboys Tickets. Not interested in sporting events? How about Broadway or off Broadway shows. You can get Wicked Tickets at a decent price too.

Hey, if you use Mongo, let me know!
