Ahmadinejad's Columbia Appearance Sparks Protest

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s scheduled appearance at Columbia University is fueling a debate about whether or not the academic institution should grant the contreversial leader to express his opinions.

In an interview on TV this morning he is claiming that they are neither building a nuclear bomb nor headed to war with the United States.

Well, you have to appreciate we don’t need a nuclear bomb. We don’t need that. What need do we have for a bomb? In political relations right now, the nuclear bomb is of no use. If it was useful it would have prevented the downfall of the Soviet Union.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

He also said that…

“It’s wrong to think that Iran and the U.S. are walking toward war. Who says so? Why should we go to war? There is no war in the offing.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

He has a point there about the Soviet Union but that was an entirely different issue with a different government. I do think that if we go to war it will be because we start it.

As far as his appearance at Columbia University I am all for differing viewpoints but how can we let someone speak to our students that wants to wipe Israel of the planet and claims that the holocaust never happened? Ahmadinejad claims that  Iran wants nothing mor e than peace and friendship with the United States and for most of the citizens of Iran that might be true and it may even be true for the President himself but unfortunately he is just a mouthpiece because he is not really in control of Iran. That distinction goes to the Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who has the last word in all policies in Iran and also has control of the military.

Ahmadinejad is an outspoken critic of the George W. Bush Administration and supports strengthened relations between Iran and Russia, Cuba, Venezuela, Syria and the Persian Gulf states. He has supported Iran’s nuclear program declaring it is for peaceful purposes in spite of contrary demands by the United Nations Security Council to end it. He was condemned internationally for calling for Israel to be “wiped off the map,” and described the Holocaust as a myth, leading to accusations of antisemitism. In response to these criticisms, Ahmadinejad said “No, I am not anti-Jew, I respect them very much.”

While liberal educators and the U.N. General Counsel are busy playing footsy with Ahmadinejad the Supreme Leader (as he is known) is busy laying plans for the destruction of Israel because in the eyes of Iran Israel is an abomination.

He also requested that he be able to lay a wreath at Ground Zero. That request was denied by the city of New York and rightly so since Iran is one of the financial backers for many terrorist groups.

Same Old Song And Dance…

I am getting ready to lose one of my cooks at the store I don’t have a manager, which pretty much sucks. He just went through drug rehabilitation but has not been able to get his community service done in the time allotted and will be spending at least 30 days in jail and maybe 60. I don’t understand exactly what it is he’s been doing but I guess he must have though he had better things to do. If I still have a slot open when he gets out he will get to keep his job but I am doing my best to go ahead and get it covered as I don’t particularly want to be working more than I already am.

Talking Jesus Action Figure

Now we just need a Santa action figure to fight him…

Sometimes Customer Service Sucks

I ordered some parts for my gas grill a couple of days ago and paid for next day air. As a matter of fact I paid more for the damned delivery charges than I did for the parts themselves. I gave them very specific instructions that if they couldn’t get the parts for me today then they just need to cancel the order. Get them to me they did. Too bad they sent the wrong parts. I ordered a burner and the two venturi things that hook to the gas lines. The burner that they sent me doesn’t even remotely look like the one that I ordered and the venturi pair won’t even fit the damn thing. I guess someone must have smoked a bit too much dope before packing the box.

I called and called and called and called and of course they don’t answer the phone, so I have emailed clagrills.com and told them that they need to send me an RMA airbill so that I can send these parts back and that as long as they refund my shipping costs they could send me the correct parts. If they can’t do that they just need to send me my damn money back. Although for the party tomorrow we are just doing cold cuts and party trays I had planned on grilling steaks for the Marine Sunday night since he has to go back the next day.

I hate it when things don’t go the way I think they should go.

Two Arrested in Noose Incident

Police in Alexandria Louisiana, a few miles from Jena and host to several demonstrations in answer to the Jena 6 stuff that has been going on have arrested 18-year-old Jeremiah Munsen and a minor for driving intoxicated and hanging two nooses from the back of his pickup. Apparently he also had an unloaded rifle in the truck, which would be fairly common for the area anyway.

Apparently Munsen kept cruising the demonstration slowly and police have also charged him with inciting to riot as well as the DUI.

Just one more redneck asshat.

The Gulf Coast Readies for a Tropical Storm

Tropical winds and rain will be reaching the gulf coast someplace between the Florida Panhandle and Mississippi by midday Saturday.

According to Weather.com the subtropical depression is about 50 miles southwest of Appalachicola right now and moving to the northwest.

Much Better Day…

Yesterday ended up being a much better day than the previous one was. I didn’t get much sleep the night before last so was pretty worn out by the time I hit the sack last night. I no longer have a manager in my store where I have had so many problems. That is a good thing believe it or not. It gives me the opportunity to start trying to fix things there and actually start making some money. It will be at least week before I get a manager in there, which makes it kind of rough since I have one of them off today and tomorrow and another on on Tuesday and Wednesday. As long as everyone shows up for work tomorrow I’m cool.

We are still planning on having our party tomorrow afternoon for the Marine. I am looking forward to it and just wish I were off on Sunday. If all goes well I will sleep in on Sunday morning and head in to work around 8AM. I will just have to wait and see about that one.

I just found out last night that one of the other two district managers is on vacation the same weekend I am supposed to be in Helen, which sucks. I am still planning on attending but I may end up not being able to go. I have really been looking forward to that weekend and am going to make every attempt to get there. I’m going to speak with my boss today and try to work that one out, but changing her vacation date is not going to happen.

O.J.'s Bail Set at $125,000

A Las Vegas judge set O.J. Simpson’s bail at $125k with the stipulations that he must surrender his passport and have no contact with anyone involved in the case. Wonder if they made him surrender his Blazer as well? Anyway, here are a few videos related to the case.

Time To Get Moving

As much as I don’t want to I have to get ready for work. I am just crossing my fingers and hoping that today goes better than yesterday did. For some reason I didn’t sleep particularly well last night and I am not in the mood to deal with a bunch of junk.

Meetings and funerals today and I have to get started working around the house as well to get it ready for the party on Saturday.

Don't Tase Me, Bro!!!

Saskboy left a comment on my post about the guy being tased and arrested and mentioned that he had three videos linked. The name of his post is ‘Brutal Police in Florida taser charismatic activist‘ and that in itself should tell you everything you need to know about his article. According to Saskboy:

Many people are disturbed by this disgusting act of fascism in Florida. The relative inaction of Kerry and the crowd to the out of control police thugs may say more about human nature than political disposition of Floridians. I’m not sure what’s worse though.

He also mentions that one of the videos takes up from the beginning. No, actually it doesn’t, it just picks up from where he started badgering Kerry with his idiotic diatribe. Not that I think badgering Kerry the fool is a bad thing but this guy is acting like an idiot, particularly when he basically says “I will ask the question after I educate the audience”.
Saksboy also asks:

Why were there police standing behind him before he even asked his questions?!

Just from the few videos that I have seen and the reaction to the rest of the audience this was not the beginning and it may not have been the first time that this guy was a pain in the ass, which would explain exactly why the police were standing behind him.

I don’t know if I would consider it fascism like The Huffington Post but I honestly think that arresting him went a bit too far in violating his rights. I’m certainly not saying that tasing his ass was wrong. I guess I would have had to be there to make that distinction and the police had to make a decision about what to do, so being an armchair quarterback after the fact is kind of pointless. From what I saw he needed to be thrown out of the event and if he had gone with police that might have been all that happened.

Aha, now we get to a few facts…

A university student with a history of taping his own practical jokes was Tasered by campus police and arrested after loudly and repeatedly trying to ask U.S. Sen. John Kerry questions during a campus forum.

Apparently he had a history of taping his own practical jokes. Guess what dude, the jokes on you. No wonder the police were standing there expecting something, this definitely wasn’t the first time and although we do have the right to free speech that doesn’t give any of us the right to get up and make an ass of ourselves in someone else’s forum.

According to the University of Florida Mr. Meyer was asked to leave the microphone after his alloted time ran out and he refused. You can hear that in the tape as well as see him resisting the effort of the policemen to get him out of the room.
