The thing that was to revolutionize the world

Saw some dumbass on a Segway this afternoon after leaving the bank. Had the sudden urge to run the fucker down. hehehe. Guess I’ve not gotten quite as geeky as I thought I had. SMF

More home automation crap

used to use alot of VR before I had to rebuild my HA system a year or so ago. I re-enabled it today and trained it for awhile. It’s still kind of hit and miss, but it’s definately fucking cool to sit my ass on the couch and change tv channels with voice commands.

Remote Control and Stuff

Had a chance to play with my ocelot this afternoon (no, it’s not illegal in Georgia). Finally have some of the infrared commands programmed into the system, can set up events that will automatically change the channels, record, etc. Very cool. Guess I will end up running a cable to my TV Tuner, and set it up like a Tivo soon.

IIS Woes

Had to uninstall and reinastal IIS on my server, it had somehow gotten whacked and could not get the damn service running at all. PITA since I had to go back through and re-add Perl to the extensions, and change the default documents. Guess it wasn’t that bad, but it had worked for so long I had forgotten some of the stuff that I did when I set it up i the first place.

Security system

Just finished putting in a security system and interfacing it with my Homeseer system. Seems to work pretty well. Not monitored of course, but it’s enough to scare away kids anyhow.

DSL Upgrade

Just upgraded to 3000/384 DSL. Very fast. Considering how many people use my network for gaming, this should improve things drastically. The cool thing is that even though it is supposed to cost an extra $5 per month, it also includes a static IP address, which I have been paying an extra $15 for, so my bill should actually drop next month. Very cool

Windows XP Service Pack 2

Getting ready to take the plunge and install the XP SP2 release candidate. Hopefully it won’t hose up my computer too bad. I will install it on this machine before I attempt to put it on my web server. Need to see what kind of changes it makes adding in the new security center stuff. The download itself was a couple hundred megs. Will post more here on it later.

Call Cell Phone Stuff

I upgraded my cellphone a few weeks ago to an LG VX6000. Very cool. I am testing out some stuff with it currently. Got a USB cable and loaded the drivers. I can somewhat sync stuff from Outlook now, as well as create my own rings using actual mp3’s. The quality isn’t half bad. Will have to keep messing with it, but this is pretty fun.
I am trying to get my wap pages working so that I can access my HA stuff over my phone, but apparently Verizon blocks all ports except for 80, which sucks, as I run this server on 80. I have tried a shitload of other ports, and the only other one that might be accessible is 443, but I cannot seem to diable SSL in IIS under Windows XP. Will have to keep looking for the solution. I have been beating my head against the wall trying to get it to work.

Equipment Failure

Damn, woke up this morning and my router has been locked up most of the night. Had to cut the power and turn it back on. Hope it’s not time for a new one. I think I have had this one a bit less than a year, don’t remember off the top of my head right now.
