Blogmeet

I guess I’ll leave this on top for a couple of days. Directions and whatnot are down below.

This week has crept up on me. I started my vacation this morning (Wednesday) and while I had to go into one of my stores for a bit it was a quick visit and now I’m done until next Wednesday morning. Too fucking soon if you ask me.
The reason I took my vacation this week is for two reasons. One, the kids are out of school Monday for fall break and the other, the Helen blogmeet. Yep, it’s Blogtoberfest again. Haven’t heard much carrying on about it this year. I’m looking forward to a restful weekend up in the Mountains. Heck, I don’t even know who all’s coming this time.
As in past years we are staying at the Chalet Kristy right on the banks of the Chattahoochee. It’s a blast. Most of the folks roll in Friday evening or Saturday but a couple of us I know will be up there Thursday evening. By about 6pm I should be sipping a frosty beverage at The Troll if anyone wants to get together.
Directions and some phone numbers are under the fold.

Traveling in Comfort

While I much prefer driving when we travel sometimes there are just instances where you have to fly such as when we went to Nassau back in February or when our son comes home from California at Christmas. It’s just too far to drive in one instance and impossible in the other.

I hate flying and as the years go by it keeps getting more and more uncomfortable. First they took away most if not all of the food on domestic flights. Then they start charging you for ALL of your luggage. Now, even though it hasn’t really been covered in the press, they aren’t even carrying pillows or blankets on board. That just plain sucks. Flying is uncomfortable enough and that just adds to it.

When we flew home from Nassau we ended up getting diverted to the other side of the state and sat there for several hours due to storms that were over Atlanta. What should have taken us and hour to an hour and a half ended up taking several hours. It was hot and then it was cold, the flight was awful due to the storms we had to fly through and I was just ready to walk home by the time we finally arrived.

It’s hard to travel prepared for all emergencies that might come up but the Cabin Cuddler does take care of some of it. Believe it or not but most of us get cold flying in the winter, not the summer. That’s because we travel for comfort. Shorts and a T-Shirt are my traveling clothes of choice but when you get on a plane and the AC is cranked to max then you start getting cold. If there is a blanket at all on the plane now there’s no telling when the last time is that they did laundry. On my last flight the crew had flown several different routes over a 15 hour period, basically just landing long enough to take on fuel and passengers. The sure don’t wash anything in between stops. Yuck!

The Cabin Cuddler comes with it’s own inflatable pillow and the tote bad turns into a pillow case. The travel blanket completely covers you and there is a pocket at the bottom that keeps your feet warm. As often as we drive around the southeast U.S. it would come in handy in the car as well. Instead of carrying three or four pillows and blankets I could just throw a couple of these in the trunk.

The girls love to go on vacation with us but they are always cold as well. When I drive, particularly in the summer, I always crank the air conditioning. Since I am right there in front of the windshield I am usually several degrees warmer than they are in the back seat and the air also helps to keep me awake as well. When I showed the girls the Cabin Cuddler video on the linked website they were amazed. Of course they are children but their comfort is even more important to me than my own.

Let me know if you have one of these or have used one before. I am really interested in hearing from folks that have some experience with them.

…and now for something REALLY nasty

Dude.

Dude!

Check out this video…

Hope you haven’t eaten yet.

Think that was bad? How about this exercise routine…

Damn!

I hope you haven’t eaten lately.

Apparently I had just enough Absinthe to leave a slight buzzing in my head. I am also not the only sick fucker around either. I found both of these videos over at My Blog Rules Your Ass! I think I’m gonna have to add this one to the blogroll. This guy’s gotta come to a blogmeet and have a few….

A Macabre Weekend…

I’m running short on time this morning but wanted to get a post up prior to going to work. I mentioned a little while earlier that I had a pretty busy weekend. It wasn’t so much busy as it was just staying away from the computer and doing other stuff.

I posted a bit about the barbecue Thursday night. We actually got to bed at a decent time, prior to midnight, so I didn’t sleep to terribly late on Friday. Originally I was going to take Pete to Six Flags but decided to save that trip for another day since the wife had to leave somewhat early to go see the Braves play. The girls made sure to watch and look for her on TV 🙂 There was actually a reasonable chance since they were sitting behind home plate. On at least two occasions they would run in and tell me they saw their mom. Who knows, maybe they did…

Prior to the evening though we took the girls to the movies. Going to the movie theater just isn’t something that’s a high priority on my list. It is prohibitively expensive and between tickets, drinks and snacks you can just about go to the fucking amusement park. There are maybe one or two movies a year that I am willing to spend money on. The rest of the time there’s Netflix. I would rather wait for the DVD release than waste money at the theater. That having been said, Pete and I went to see the Dark Knight and the wife took RePete to see Space Chimps. I think that I most likely got the better end of the deal on that one…

Saturday I worked briefly in the yard and then just hung with the wife. We sat down and watched Sweeney Todd on DVD and then the Sixth Sense on cable. Talk about creepy movie weekend…I was pleasantly surprised at Sweeney Todd. Not that I would like a musical, I knew that. It was more the fact that Johnny Depp and musical just don’t go together. Pretty good movie though…

Yesterday I spend planting some more trees and stuff and then basically did nothing. I intended to at least write a bit but don’t think I managed to accomplish a damn thing. Should have gone to the gym after work. I do plan on going today though. My store manager in Temple is on vacation for the next ten days and that’s pretty much where I’ll be living for the next week and a half. Another week with one day off. What a pisser. It will give me the chance to go work out in the afternoons though since the gym is right behind my restaurant.

Hopefully I will have something interesting to post for Odd Shots Monday before the day is out. I always carry my camera so there is no telling what will come up…

tika tika tick…

When I am writing a bunch that’s the sound my wife makes. I don’t exactly type. It’s more like I bang the keyboard to death. I can take one of those extremely quiet keyboards and make it sound like an instrument of torture. I type so-so. I used to do the two fingered typing although now that I have been paying attention I see that I am using four or five fingers. I am somewhere around 50wpm I guess and I only have to look at the keys about half the time.

So what the fuck got me to thinking about how I type. I’ve been writing pretty much non-stop since I got home. Not here obviously although I have been needing to get back into postme. No, it’s mainly on my other sites where I am still posting for $$$. I discovered that since we’ve been home from vacation that I could use the extra bucks. I enjoyed that extra twelve grand I made last year and I fully intend on making some more between now and Christmas. I’ve written probably 15 posts since I got home this afternoon and I fully intend on writing about 15 more before I go to bed. Maybe even one or tow that actually make some sense over here 🙂

I am also available on a contract basis to the CIA if they want. You know, stick me in a room with some fucking towel heads, blindfold them and let me blog for ten or twelve hours at a time. They’ll get so fucking sick of it they will tell you anything you want to know…

Want to know something else that’s funny as hell? You know fromt he little ‘reblog’ link that’s in the corner of my posts that I have been using that Zemanta stuff for a few weeks now to suggest keywords, tags and photographs for my blog posts. It comes in a plugin form for my browser as well as one for MT. I use the one for my browser because it works in ALL my blog formats. Anyhow, since I mentioned the word ‘torture’ the first keywords to surface were ‘John McCain’ and ‘George Bush’. Bwahaha. Only if money-grubbing stealing bastards is torture, but then again that applies to Obama and the rest of Bozo’s clubhouse as well.

Boy George Denied U.S. Visa

Boy George em sua apresentação como DJ na boate Pacha, em São Paulo, Brasil. O evento ocorreu em 14 de julho de 2007.

Apparently the government has denied U.K. performer and DJ Boy George a visa to enter the United States. Immigration is reporting that they denied the visa because George is facing trial in November in London on charges of false imprisonment from back in April of 2007.

Back in August of 2007 he spent five days cleaning up the streets of Manhattan in order to fulfill his community service for falsely reporting a break-in at his New York home.

Seems kind of stupid to me. It’s not as if he’s going to hide a bomb up his ass or something, although as someone that likes to whitewash the back 40 I guess you never know…

Disney Day One (and two)…

The first couple of days of my vacation were pretty uneventful. Wednesday I spent the morning running around, taking the dog to the kennel, packing and repacking the car, doctor’s appointments and filling prescriptions prior to leaving town. It seems like a lot to be doing on the very day that I was leaving town but it was also my first day off of work so I had not had the chance to take care of any of it prior to that day.

I actually managed to get a nap in prior to the wife coming home from work as well, which was going to be needed. I planned to drive to Lake City Florida and spend the night, which is exactly what we ended up doing. Prior to that we stopped somewhere south of Macon for dinner. I had picked up cold cuts, boiled eggs and other goodies. Last Wednesday was our actual 20th anniversary so if we were going to be on the road I wanted our celebration to be nice. We drove on and made it to Lake City around 9pm or so and spent the night at…Best Western I believe it was. I would have to find the receipt to be sure. It certainly wasn’t anyplace I would remember. Just another generic hotel room with crappy too soft beds and a continental breakfast.

Magic Kingdom Entrance
We made it to Disney before 11 on Thursday morning…

Once we got there we immediately drove to the Polynesian Resort to check in. While it was too early to actually get the room and put our stuff in there I knew that we could get our keycards which contain ID, park tickets, room keys, and meal information. I also had mine linked to my bank account so that we could just charge any purchases to the room as well. Very convenient. Once we had checked in the bellhops locked our stuff up and we changed so that we could head off to one of the water parks, Typhoon Lagoon. It was OK, I think the girls enjoyed it a bit more than I did.

We hung at the water park for a while and once we were able to check in to the room we took the bus back to the resort and I took a nap while the girls went swimming.

I am almost sorry I napped, but I was pretty beat from the drive and then hanging at the water park. The wife got to watch the Space Shuttle lift off in the distance from the beach while I was asleep. I don’t guess you could see much more than the smoke but cool nonetheless.

After they woke me up we went to eat supper and then hung out on the beach to watch fireworks.

They also do this light show on the lakes on either side of the magic kingdom that is pretty cool as well. Some things never change I suppose. I can remember the light show out on the lake when I went as a child 31 years ago. I guess Disney World was about five years old at that point. We stayed in the Camp Wilderness camp ground when I was a kid. My version of camping now revolves around a hotel room with air conditioning and someone else to prepare my food.
