This Weeks Soldier Was Suggested By Cynthia

Master Sgt. Michael Wert
Master Sgt. Michael Wert (Left)
35 years old from Saginaw, Michigan
2nd Marine Aircraft Wing
May 5, 2007

Master Sgt. Michael Wert, an intelligence chief for the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing at Cherry Point in Havelock, N.C., was vacationing on an early May weekend with his family at the beach when he saw two boys struggling in the surf.
His wife, Debbie, said her husband rushed into the water to help while she went to call 911. Their daughter, Katrina, grabbed a boogie board and followed Wert into the water. She managed to help the boys onto the board, but didn’t see her dad with them. One of the boys told her that he (Wert) had to let them go and had died.
The rescue team found Wert, brought him to shore and tried to revive him. As they worked, strangers prayed with the family and comforted the Wert children.
Wert was six days shy of celebrating his 36th birthday.
Wert joined the Marines in 1989 after graduating from Alma High School, in Saginaw, MI, where he was a cross-country runner. He served in Operation Desert Storm and supported Operation Iraqi Freedom.
As the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing intelligence chief, he gracefully accepted the role as the go-to guy for his Marines. He was the one who helped his major’s son build a pinewood derby car while the officer was deployed. He knew when babies were born in the command. He kept up with birthdays and anniversaries. He was the first to greet Marines getting off the plane after a tour in Iraq. “He was always there to help,” Lt. Col. William Conley, commander of Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 2 said at a memorial service for Wert. “Master Sergeant Wert responded to the need for help. As always, he didn’t hesitate — he went to help. He tragically lost his own life in doing so.”
“I admired him for his commitment to service and the Marine Corps,” said Col. Kathy Tate. “We know he was a hero every day.”

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

I’ve Been Simpsonized…

…finally!

When I posted a link to the site a couple of weeks ago they were getting so many hits (obviously not just from me) that they took the site down. I assume that they have upgraded their servers and the application is back online. Here is me after being Simpsonized.

That Nasty Old Nap Monster Strikes Again…

The meeting went fairly well this morning I thought. The guy didn’t quit although he looked like he wanted to punch me in the face. Oh well, shit happens. Maybe he will start getting everything done now and make us both some money. That would be the ideal situation. Otherwise someone else can take his place.

With staying up late and getting up pretty early I lay down to take a nap when the wife and older daughter left the house this morning and had planned to sleep for about an hour. They woke me up when they came in three hours later. I really had not planned on sleeping that long. I did get up several times because my other daughter was there, but I don’t like leaving her to run around the house that long with minimal supervision. I guess I was pretty beat. The job is getting a little easier but it’s still whipping my ass physically because of the amount of hours I am putting in.

I still have to empty my closet out at some point this evening, maybe right after dinner. I also want to cut the grass, although it seemed like the wife wanted to handle that herself.

SimplifyThis Affiliates Program

The Simplifythis Affiliates program is a high paying affiliate program that is easy to use. Just refer someone to SimplifyThis.com, they sign up for a paid subscription and you get 30% of their subscription. Simple and easy just the way I like it.

ST_120x60_1-1.jpg

The payouts are:

Their Plan   Your Commission
 Jumbo           $104.40
 Grande          $68.40
 Tall               $25.20

Those are pretty decent pay outs. Most of the affiliate programs that I have come across are much less than this and if you are pretty good at the sell, this is a good way to make some extra cash.

Audio Links

Thanks to a comment by Matthias I decided to revisit Odiogo and the code that I was using for the link to the audio on each post. They sent me an email about it awhile back and I had forgotten all about it. There is code to add into your sidebar that will insert the player, which works much better than my little javascript. After the page loads entirely a “listen now” button should appear just below the title to each post on the main page. I have not installed it on each individual entry template.

Almost forgot, here is the code itself,

<div class=”module-widget module” id=”widget-Odiogo_odiogo_listen_button_YOUR_FEED_ID”>
<div class=”module-content”>

<!– BEGIN ODIOGO LISTEN BUTTON V1.5.4 (TP) –>
<script type=”text/javascript” language=”javascript” src=”http://podcasts.odiogo.com/odiogo_js.php?feed_id=YOUR_FEED_ID”></script>
<script type=”text/javascript” language=”javascript”>
<!–
function odg_ScanPageTypePad_YOUR_FEED_ID ()
{
    odg_ScanPageTypePad (“YOUR_FEED_ID”);
}
odg_AddEvent (odg_ScanPageTypePad_YOUR_FEED_ID);
showOdiogoSubscribeButton (“YOUR_FEED_URL”);
// –>
</script>
<!– END ODIOGO LISTEN BUTTON V1.5.4 (TP) –>

</div>
</div>

You can get the code here as well as email support to get your feed ID if you have lost the email from them that contains it.

Are You Superbad?

Sony Pictures is releasing the new movie Superbad on August 17th. From the minds of the creators behind the 40 Year Old Virgin and Talladega Nights comes Superbad, a tale about coming of age…I can relate to the dorky guys in the movie. That was me and my friends all over.

Sony even has a widget you can post on your social networking site or blog. Check this thing out. You can embed it in the sidebar of your site, or even put it in a post (obviously) like this one.

Sort of cool actually. I already have a ton of stuff in my sidebar, but I may stick it in there at least until the movie comes out.

The premise of the movie is about three guys coming of age and having to go off to college failures with women. They have one night to rectify the situation and are going to do their best. Judging from some of the clips I have seen it looks pretty hilarious. Age verification is required for some of the clips that aren’t suitable for children, oh by the way. You can also watch five Superbad videos at Youtube starting today, August 1st. Here is one of them. LMAO.

There are also free wallpapers and other downloadables such as ringtones and buddy icons at Are You Superbad? if you are interested in pimping out your phone or PC with Superbad stuff before everyone else does. You can also add these guys to your friends at Myspace. Here is Evan’s Myspace profile. Go check him and the other guys out and add them as friends or you can go over to the Facebook group and join as well. There is enough stuff out about this movie to keep you busy for quite some time to come, so get to it.
