Now Here’s A Sport I Could Get Into…

Just need a few beers in a cooler and I would be good to go. Hell, as hot as it has been in that stupid car with no air the last couple of weeks I think I could kick all their asses.

Mutual Fund Managers

TheBuyList.com has much needed information for those of us that like to invest in mutual funds. More than 50% of common stock in the U.S. is currently owned by pension funds and mutual funds. With the exception to the privately held stock I have in my company all of my investments in the stock market are through mutual funds, as is some of my wife’s retirement funds. They also account for over 80% of all of the daily trading activity on the stock market as well.

One way to research stocks and see which funds and managers are buying what is to go through each mutual fund’s periodic SEC filings, to see what was added since the last filing but that is fairly time and labor intensive. There is a much easier way. TheButList.com does all of the work for you and posts the results on the Internet for the investment community to peruse.

Early Day For A Change…

At least lately it is. I have a manager off today but I was still able to get out of there by about a quarter till three. Try as I might to get out the door by two something seems to come up to hold me around. The store was a little better than it has been for the last three months, mainly because I spent so much time there while the dude was on vacation last week. I still had to go in and clean up his nasty mess behind him but it was a slight improvement.

I also spent about half the morning helping out another district manager whose store manager decided to get drunk and not show up for work until ten this morning (four hours late). It could have been worse I suppose. It’s one of my old stores so I got some folks in there to take care of the restaurant and made it back to my own little hell hole in time to get some of my stuff finished.

Microsoft Software

Costcaptain.com is a Microsoft Authorized Education Reseller. The way I originally came across the sponsor of this post is doing a search for online resellers for Microsoft Office 2007. One thing the laptop doesn’t have on it right now is an office suite. If I can find it I have Office 2000 somewhere and that will work, but if I recall one of the CDs is damaged. The wife and boy definitely need Office on there and I admit I wouldn’t mind having it as well. I had toyed with the idea of OpenOffice but I have tried it and I just don’t like it as well as Microsoft Office. It’s still the best at what it’s for, at least in my opinion.

CostCaptain has some pretty good prices as well. Prices start at $129 with academic discounts  and since the wife is a teacher that works great for us. I just have to send them proof of academic eligibility after buying the software. They also sell gift certificates as well, which is pretty cool with school starting back up.

Overslept

I should have been up about 45 minutes ago. Damn I didn’t want to get out of bed this morning. I stayed up too late working last night. Can’t do that too often anymore because it is starting to kick my ass. I have two more days until I get a couple of days off and boy am I going to enjoy them this week.

Summer vacation is almost over for the girls. The wife is back to work today and the girls start school on Thursday. RePete starts pre-k this year. I just seems so amazing to me that she is old enough to be starting elementary school. No more amazing than having a son in the Marine Corp though. I don’t feel old enough to have a son that’s an adult and I damn sure don’t act like it most days.

I think I will sit down and write him this afternoon. I am awful about writing letters no matter who they are too. It’s just not something that I am very good at but I know he will appreciate it.

A Judge With Some Sense

At least there are still a few of them around. The article sounds almost sympathetic to Donna Duffer though.

Gabmbling disorders just like alcoholism and drug addiction can be a terrible thing but ultimately we are responsible for our behavior. The only true victims were her family, co-workers and employer.
