Wordless Wednesday

I mentioned earlier that I would get this up today, so here it is…
This Weeks Hero Was Suggested by Mary Ann

Staff Sgt. Jude Voss

Staff Sgt. Jude Voss
1st Battalion, 3d Special Forces Group (Airborne)
U.S. Army
His courage illustrates a combat truth to these veterans of World War II, Korea and Vietnam: Soldiers aren’t thinking about glory or ideals in the midst of a battle. They fight for the men to the left and right of them.
And that’s just what SSgt. Jude Voss did in September of 2006 when, without consideration to his safety, SSgt. Voss ran through enemy fire and the burning, smoking debris of a truck to rescue Sgt. 1st Class Greg Stube. Sgt. Stube was in a bad way. Uniform burning and legs busted, but because of the actions of SSgt. Voss he is alive today.
Because of his actions that day, SSgt. Voss was nominated for and received the Silver Star Medal for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action. “I did what everybody out there would do” Voss said. “I was just the closest guy.”
You can read SSgt. Voss’s story here.

Boy George Denied U.S. Visa

Boy George em sua apresentação como DJ na boate Pacha, em São Paulo, Brasil. O evento ocorreu em 14 de julho de 2007.

Apparently the government has denied U.K. performer and DJ Boy George a visa to enter the United States. Immigration is reporting that they denied the visa because George is facing trial in November in London on charges of false imprisonment from back in April of 2007.

Back in August of 2007 he spent five days cleaning up the streets of Manhattan in order to fulfill his community service for falsely reporting a break-in at his New York home.

Seems kind of stupid to me. It’s not as if he’s going to hide a bomb up his ass or something, although as someone that likes to whitewash the back 40 I guess you never know…

May 31st: Animal Kingdom

Saturday was our third day at the park. After having stayed up pretty late the night before we slept in a bit. Besides going to the Animal Kingdom today we also had the Pirates and Princess party to attend that evening. I honestly don’t remember where we ate that morning, now that it’s been almost a month. Had we eaten at one of the character breakfasts I would have taken pictures so we must have eaten there at the Polynesian Resort where we stayed that week. We got kind of a late start to the day.

The girls didn’t particularly enjoy waiting for the bus…

Waiting for the bus...

We had a pretty good time at the Animal Kingdom but we cut it a bit short that day and didn’t get to do a whole lot of stuff. Pete and the wife did get to ride on Everest, maybe more than once if I recall and Pete loved it. The wife I think was feeling a bit ill by the time they got off…

While I didn’t get to go on the safari ride there is a walk in the Asia section you can go through and I managed to get a few pictures of the animals there.

Tiger at the Animal Kingdom

Tiger

These damned bats were hanging around. The fucking things were huge…

I had a hard time getting a shot of this green tree frog in it’s aquarium.

Some kind of frog...

This guy was hanging out taking a nap in the heat…

Maybe a wild boar?

…and I did manage to get a picture of this Komodo Dragon lying around in the sun.

There is this pretty cool fountain in the Asia section section that all of the kids were playing in cooling down a bit.

A bit of water fun

It doesn’t matter when or where, RePete is always ready to pose for a photo shoot…

Darn it's hot, but I'll pose any time!

We also rode the Kali River Rapids, which is my favorite ride there. I’m not much into roller coasters and I usually end up hanging with RePete anyway, but water rides I love. It was pretty hot and muggy, so we left the Animal Kingdom around 4pm or so and went back to the hotel to clean up and change after a short nap.

The Pirates and Princess party was at the Magic Kingdom and ran from 7pm until midnight. You actually had to purchase separate tickets for the event, so it wasn’t crowded in the least. I think we were all pretty tired before we ever even made it to that or we would have had a much better time.

This was taken in front of Cinderella’s Castle late into the evening…

Pirates & Princess Party

All week long by the time we finally rolled in to the hotel (this time it was after midnight again) the girls passed out…

Asleep after the Pirates and Princess party

Sunday we went to Hollywood Studios. I think we all enjoyed it much more than the last time that we went, but I will post some photos from Hollywood Studios next week.

Seven Words…

Mugshot taken of George Carlin, taken following his arrest for public indecency.

Image via Wikipedia

Back around the time that I turned seventeen I was living with a friend of mine up in Roswell. Actually there were several of us that were roommates off and on for quite a while. My best friend Chris, the one that passed away a couple of years ago, was living there as well. One of my favorite memories is that the two of us would stay up late to watch the George Carlin shows on HBO. I love George Carlin. He was pretty damned hilarious. One of my favorite bits, along with millions of other people is the seven words you cannot say on television. Here’s most of it.

I heard about his death yesterday and I was saddened by the news. While I don’t share some of the same political opinions I can’t argue that he was a pretty smart dude who used humor to get his point across. There was nothing he couldn’t talk about and make people laugh.
He was in several different movies and television shows as well as continuing his stand-up act right up until the week prior to his death.
Back when my son was pretty young we were introduced to the Thomas The Tank Engine television show. He was the narrator and played the conductor in the US for awhile. I always thought that it was just too cool that the guy who’s indecency case for the ‘seven words’ routine made it all the way to the supreme court would be narrating a children’s show.

Ask your Senators to filibuster the warrantless spying/telecom immunity bill

Victory is still possible in the fight against warrantless spying and immunity for the telecom companies that collaborated in previous illegal spying. Just this morning the Politico reports that . . .
Senate leaders may split the warrantless spying and immunity provisions into two separate bills, and hold two separate votes.
This is a sign of significant divisions in the Senate that we may yet be able to exploit to defeat the Senate version of HR 6304.
The divisions are deep enough that there still isn’t a Senate version of the House bill, or a bill number. And there are still multiple ways we could win this fight.
One strategy is to find a Senator willing to filibuster, and thereby block a vote.
MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann reported last night that there’s pressure on Presidential candidate and Senator Barak Obama to filibuster — to show he can lead his party and stand up to the Republicans. Senators Chris Dodd and Russ Feingold have stated strong opposition to this bill and are also strong potential candidates to filibuster.
Toward this end we’ve changed the message to the Senate on our old campaign against the “Protect America Act”, to read as follows . . .
“Please do everything you can to defeat the Senate version of HR 6304, the FISA Amendments Act of 2008. Please use your power to filibuster.”
Please send this message now, with your personalizing comments added.
You can use your personal comments to point out that HR 6304 violates the 4th Amendment, and that your Senators swore an oath to defend the Constitution.
Many Senators are opposed to this bill. If we can encourage just one to filibuster then we’ll only need 41 votes to defeat the bill. We believe the three Senators we’ve listed in this message are the best candidates to do so. But every Senator needs to be contacted.
The possibility of victory by filibuster, combined with the urgency of this situation, means that once again, we encourage you to call your Senators. Once you’re logged-in to send your message, you’ll see their office phone number. Please call today.
Remember, we were in a similar position with this issue back in Fall 2006, and again in February this year — defeat seemed certain — but we ended up pulling out a victory. Now, in the space of just 24 hours, we’ve gone from expecting an immediate vote to having the Senate leadership contemplate splitting the bill into two parts.
Victory is still possible, and the filibuster is a powerful weapon we could use to achieve that victory. Ask, and you may receive.
Tell your Senators to filibuster. Give the pro-Constitution forces courage, and make the anti-Constitution Senators nervous.
Send a message!
Then call.
Also, please also help us make budget this month. There are only 6 days left, and we need just $1,509 to earn a $3,600 matching pledge AND make budget. We have no one else to ask but you. You can contribute here.

Snake

We noticed this thing lying in the driveway yesterday morning so of course I had to go out and get a picture. By the time I left yesterday evening the damned thing was pretty nasty.

There is an area outside of my parking lot between the main road and the restaurant that sinks down and a culvert is at the bottom. It’s pretty overgrown and I’m sure the damned thing crawled out of there. I don’t know but it was pretty big and looked poisonous. Anyone know what kind of snake it is?

It’s nice to be able to carry a camera around besides my phone. While I have to wait until I get home to post photos, they are much better. It will be cool when phone cameras eventually catch up to the high resolution of some of the pocket cameras around. Speaking of which, the wife and girls got me a Nikon Coolpix for Father’s Day. I still love my Canon but I am able to keep this thing in my pocket all og the time so I can get decent pictures of stuff to blog on.

Shrillary Needs Your Help

So apparently Hillary Clinton is $20 Million in debt because of her campaign and wants your help to pay off her debts. Her PERSONAL debts. This lying conniving sack of dog turds is over $20 Million in debt, personally, and she wanted to be President of the United States. She can’t even manage her own debt successfully and and she wanted to run our country. What a crock of shit. Regardless of whether you are voting Democrat or Republican I would hope that you can see the irony in this and vote for someone that can at least follow a budget, although with the current drop of candidates that is not likely to happen at all.Just do as politicians have been doing for years and put it off on the next generation. The problem is that it’s going to catch up with us and bite us in the ass before too long.
