The kids are all back in school, Stephanie is back at work now, and today which is my Monday actually coincides with the proper day of the week. I had to cut my cook today and tomorrow and have her wait tables. The new manager is supposed to cook with me the next two days, which kind of sucks since that means I will spend 90% of my day on the grill, instead of getting shit done that I need to. Hopefully it will go smoothly. Coming back from my days off there are several things I have to do including audits on the cash and food, and that will take me at least an hour, depending on how busy it is out front. This may end up being a pretty long day.

I had my employee meeting last Tuesday afternoon. I think it was a letdown for a few of them. I don’t know if they expected my head to spin around and start belching fire, but it was very short (as I have to pay them for the time) and succinct. I hate meetings and it is not very often that I have them. This is probably my 2nd one in three years. My boss ended up running her mouth longer than I did and I cut it short. There were only three things that I needed to go over anyway, so it lasted 10-15 minutes. Pretty easy stuff too.

1. Get along regardless of whether you like everyone or not.

2. If I even suspect that anyone has been buying or selling pills I will call the law and let them handle it.

3. Food Cost. The 2nd biggest problem that I have, and one of the ones that are affecting my paycheck the most.

I haven’t had to fire anyone yet, but have made some major changes on a couple of schedules, and have had to write warnings for a couple. The way I figure it, I am leaving soon to open a new store and I can’t leave the new guy with a bunch of problems.

I arrived at work about 6:20 this morning, left at 2:30, picked up the youngest from daycare and made it home by about 3:15 or so. I ended up having to go back in at 5:20 and have just gotten home. Damn, I have a bad attitude today. Just want to tell someone to fuck off.

On a brighter note, they finally moved a trailer onto the site of the new store here in Temple, so they should be breaking ground in the next day or two. That will put opening about the last week of September. I was hoping it would be delayed at least until then. Any earlier and I might have had problems getting up to Helen. Things are looking up. Now I just need to win the fucking Megamillions and all will be well.

It was actually a pretty uneventful day today. I certainly expected a lot more bullshit after being off for the last two days. My bosses boss has been on my ass lately about payroll, so I have made a bunch of major changes to the scheduling. I cut some of the mouth breathers a couple of days, and my first shift cook that has been so much of a pain in the ass the last three years is now a 3rd shift cook. Now the trick is to see if he actually shows up. Even if he doesn’t it’s not that big of a deal. If he hangs me I don’t have to worry about how the next manager is going to get rid of him. If he DOES show up and do a decent job, well good. The position will actually pay him a little more and give him the opportunity to make a little more money.

I am having a mandatory meeting on Tuesday afternoon. I don’t have too many employee meetings. I don’t believe in them. Generally they are a waste of fucking money (you have to pay them for coming) when I can go over what I need at the beginning of each shift or on-on-one with the folks that need a bit of meeting time. This is a bit different though. I have to pretty much put my foot down about the pill heads and some rumors that some of them have been buying and selling on my property. I have the feeling that at least a couple of them may quit afterward, which is fine, they are the ones that need to go. It will hurt my money a little bit to lose them as I get paid off of retention, but in the long run I will be much better off. Besides, I will be in a different store three months from now and I can’t leave the new guy with a bunch of shit that I inherited from the last manager. I’ve been around long enough to be able to deal with most of them and do it successfully, but he has not.

There are also some issues I am going to have to go over as far as these people getting along at work. I could give a flying fuck if they like each other, as long as they act like it at work and do a professional job, that is all I care about.

I think that this new guy is going to do a pretty decent job. He worked a double on one of my off days since the cook called in. Had it been me I would have found someone to else to work. After 20 years I don’t believe in working fucking doubles, or 2nd and 3rd shifts. This guy is still young and gung-ho and willing to cut a bit of payroll. Hell yeah. He can work all the fucking doubles he wants while I am still getting paid off the store.

Today was not a particularly good day at work. By the time I got home (I left early to drop something off with the SO) my head was pounding furiously. Took a nap and I may be feeling a little bit better now. Just working on my 2nd cup of coffee so it is to early to tell. I didn’t get to sleep very long, but I did sleep like the dead.

I just happened across this story by accident this morning while surfing. To me this is just a case of a moron giving marijuana a bad rap.

The guy was creating a disturbance in a bar and was asked by management to leave. He refused, so they called the cops. When arrested, AFTER arguing with the cops, he was found to be in possession of a small amount of pot. Of course NOW it’s because he does drugs. It’s all about the pot.

No, what it is about is the fact that he is a fucking dumbass who just happens to smoke pot, giving the pro-war on drugs idiots something else to point their finger at.

I run a business. If you create a disturbance in my restaurant, you will normally be asked to shut the fuck up. After that, you get asked to leave. If you refuse, guess what? The fucking police are called and you get your ass arrested for criminal trespassing (which he was also charged with BTW). That makes you the fucking dumbass. If you happen to have something on you that you shouldn’t, more your stupidity.

Drug WarRant is one of the sites that are way down at the bottom of my blogroll, because it has been there longer (new ones are added at the top), so I only get there on days when I am starting from the bottom, like today. Anyway, I hate the so-called War on Drugs and support legalization of pot, so I agree with quite a bit that I find over here.

It’s kind of funny, because I don’t smoke (pot) and haven’t in a long time, but I see no good reason for that stopping any other adults that want to.
