Granite and Marble Countertops

Now that I have seen Elisson’s ideas for his new kitchen setup I have been hankering to redo ours. Alas, that’s going to have to wait. I would however like to get the master bathroom done at some point in the near future. The wife wants to tile and paint it anyway, so we might as well redo the countertops as well and replace them with granite.

I’ve looked around at several different places and I must say that I am impressed with the level of service and professionalism at All Granite and Marble. Apparently quite a bit of their appeal is the process that they go through versus what a lot of other companies do.

All Granite was the third shop in the country to start using computer numerically controlled machinery for the fabrication of granite countertops and this speeds the project up immensely and also improves the quality of the finished product. It has to do with the fact that since the machines are computer controlled they get the exact cut you need and since they use water the edges are much more smooth and less dull than other competitors. They have five of the machines,so can get it done in a timely manner.

They also have a much faster turnaround time than most other companies as well. Since there is no middle man, they take three days from the time of templating your cabinets until they are installed. Since quite a few companies take anywhere from two weeks to two months and leave you without cabinets this is a pretty darn big deal.

They also sell tools and granite maintenance and care products as well. One of the things I learned from a friend of my a few years ago is that you need to keep granite cleaner on hand as well in order to keep it looking beautiful. One thing that he had done that was really exciting to me is that he had his touchscreen home automation interface mounted directly into his granite countertop in the bar. It was a very nice finished project. Being so much into home automation as I am this was neat.

Here is what I would love to put in the bathroom…

Changing our countertops in the bathroom would make all the difference in the world as to how they look and feel. Our guest bath is deisgned with an oriental motif and something along these lines would also look great in there as well.

What is Up?

I wish I knew what was going on. The sites are so slow it’s not even funny. I don’t know if I have hit my hosts speed limit or what. I had to buy another ten gigs of bandwidth yesterday so that my site wouldn’t run out before the end of the month. I don’t seem to be getting a ton a spam, but I have no idea how to check and see.

Maybe I will log into AWStats later and see what’s going on. I’m not even getting nearly the traffic that I was when the Harry Potter book came out so I know that isn’t the problem.

Halloween’s Coming

I love Halloween. It is one of my favorite times of the year. Part of it is the fact that it finally starts cooling down a bit, but it is an extremely fun time and I have quite a few fond memories of Halloween, more so as a teenager and an adult than I did as a child.

There is also the fact that at Halloween all of the nice looking ladies can walk around in public in their sexy lingerie and get away with it, but maybe I am just a pig.

Blowing Wind…

I got home around Four this afternoon. It was so hot outside and in that damn car again that I though I was going to pass out or something. I had to drive from Carrollton, which about fifteen miles south of here and with no air it was pretty darn hot. I went ahead and straightened up the living room a bit and vacuumed downstairs as I knew once I sat down I was done for. Apparently more than I though. I lay down for a couple of minutes and they were just able to wake me up a few minutes ago although apparently they had been trying for awhile.

I walked outside and off in the distance it is thundering and lightning pretty heavily. The temperature has dropped at least 25 degrees outside. It’s amazing how much change the wind can blow in just a short time.

Unfortunately I have to go back to work in a bit less than an hour. I was hoping to be completely finished at the store I was at today but with the meeting being at One I had to run to another store to put out some fires.

Damn, just got off the phone with one of my managers and my third shift cook is trying to call in on me for tonight. That’s gonna cut things short for me online tonight. If I don’t end up working the shift I may be back on later.

Untitled post

I almost literally had to drag myself out of bed this morning. I am sore and tired. It’s been another long week and I’m glad that today is my last day. This is my seventh day this week and I am off tomorrow. Unfortunately my boss starts vacation today or I would be taking Saturday off as well.

I may be able to get out a bit early if I can get staffed though. Our normal weekly meeting is changing venues. Since it’s just myself and the other two district managers and the HR manager we’ve decided to have it at a local bar in Carrollton at 1 PM this afternoon. It should prove to be a bit livelier than the normal weekly meetings.

Just Another Day In Paradise…

As I thought, it was around nine when I got home tonight. The meeting lasted most of the evening but we actually got finished earlier than we did last week. I had planned on coming home and writing a bit, but I think I will skip that tonight. I will probably schedule some news posts tomorrow when I wake up and may write a bit if I can awaken myself on time.

A kindhearted patriot. That’s how SSgt. John Self was described by those who knew him. “John was a good boy, a good boy who loved his country and who loved Christ and for that he’ll move on to a better place,” said Laron Self, Sgt. Self’s grandfather, fighting back tears.
SSgt. Self was killed, and three other airmen wounded, when an IED hit the Humvee they were traveling in while on his 79th patrol in Baghdad, Iraq. “John volunteered for this deployment while he was deployed to (Southwest Asia),” said Chief Master Sgt. Keith Morris, 314th SFS security forces manager. “We discussed this deployment via e-mail. He said he made his decision to deploy again to gain experience.”
“He could always find the humor in anything regardless of the situation,” said Senior Airman Daniel Hunsperger, a member of Self’s fire team. “He believed in everything he did. This was obvious to us after learning he had only spent two weeks home between his last deployment and volunteering for this one.”
On May 23, SSgt. Self was laid to rest with a crowd of hundreds to pay their respects. People lined both sides of the highway for more than 5 miles waving flags as the hundred-car procession traveled to the burial. Shouts of, “We love you John,” and “Thank you, John, could be heard as the train of cars passed by. “That’s a hero,” Susan Chambers, one of the many mourners, said to her son as she pointed at Self’s casket.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.
