Cleveland Shooting

I received a tweet from Slobokan and almost imemdiately afterward got a breaking news email from CNN about a shooting spree at a school in Cleveland, Ohio. Apparently a 14-year-old in at a Cleveland high school started shooting at teachers and students, wounding four before he was killed. According to the article at CNN it’s not known right now if he took his own life or if the police shot him. A also don’t know if that’s just some junk the CNN reporter stuck in there or if they think he may have killed himself.

cleveland The victims include two adult men, 57 and 42 and two teenage males at 14 and 17 years old.

From what I read, the school itself is an off-campus setting, mainly for kids that get kicked out of normal high school, special-ed, or troubled kids.

At some point today I should be getting video or a news article or two and I will post it here just as soon as I get it.

Wednesday Hero

This Weeks Hero Was Suggested By Greta, Who Is Herself A Solders’ Angel

Lance Cpl. Cory Jamieson
May Not Solder Go Unloved
Back in 2003, self-described “ordinary mother”, Patti Patton-Bader, started an organization called Solders’ Angels because her son, Sgt. Brandon Varn, wrote her a letter from Iraq in which he showed concern that some of the brave men and women there weren’t receiving any mail or support from back home. Well, she wasn’t going to allow this. She called a few friends and family asking them if they would write to some of the soldiers. They’d never met them. Didn’t know who they were, but they wrote. And in a few short months, Solders’ Angles went from an idea an “ordinary mother” had to having chapters all over the country and thousands of angels all over the world letting soldiers know that they were loved and respected by writing hundreds of thousands of letters, sending care packages, medical supplies, body armor and lending comfort and support to military families. Solder’s Angels and the people who run and support it are heroes in the truest sense.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.
We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived

Topical Tuesday

Another meme I am trying out for Tuesdays. I kind of like this one because it makes you think and damn does that hurt sometimes 🙂

Anyway here is what Topical Tuesday is all about…

Topical Tuesday is a new meme intended to inspire the art of discussion via our blogs. Each week, on a Tuesday, a new topic will be placed on the main site for people to post about. Topics are open, and don’t necessarily need to be intended for serious discussion – after all a meme should be nothing if not fun!

This weeks topic is The Greatest Superhero and why.

batman.jpg

I loved comics as a kid and still do to some extent although I don’t buy them very often. There are two that are near and dear to my heart and they are Spiderman and Batman. I guess to me though, the Batman is the greatest superhero. Batman is a haunted soul with quite a bit of darkness in him that is his main motivation. Although in the last few years Spiderman developed a bit of a dark side I think that Batman had it all along. It was even more apparent just how dark he could be in Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns. This is one of my all time favorite graphic novels. My copy was unfortunately destroyed a few years back but sooner or later I will get my hands on another original copy. Until then Batman will always be in my head.

I know this is a short entry this week but I wrote this last night and was up much too late. Didn’t get home from work until after ten.

TMI Tuesday

I’ve been hunting for a silly meme to take the place of Tramp Stamp Tuesday since I have moved it to my nameless blog that’s somewhere else 🙂 and came across TMI Tuesday last night. With TMI Tuesday I ask some questions and if you dare you answer in the comments or link to your blog with the answers.

tmituesday.jpg

So here are your questions for this week…

1. Top or Bottom?

2. Ever shaved your privates?

3. Is this too personal?

4. Do you care?

5. Do this meme again next week?

Me, Myself, and I

Deputy Kills 6 Over Insult

I’ve been insulted a time or two in the past. Heck, more than that. You live and learn and brush stuff like that off. For Tyler Peterson, a Wisconsin cop, being called a worthless pig was just too much for him and he was apparently so distraught over it that he felt the need to kill six people and put a seventh in critical condition.

The youngest of his victims was 14 year old Lindsey Stahl.
This is a pretty horrible incident and I guess the questions and finger pointing will start pretty soon. I know that most police forces do psychological testing but exactly how much testing would they be able to do in a small town such as this? I live in a small town like that. Most of the officers in my community have worked in bigger towns with larger police forces and just want to be out here for the quiet, so that makes me a bit more confortable but who knows when someone is going to snap. It’s unfortunate for the victims that he had a gun with him when he did.

Back to Work…

I only thought today was a long day. I ended up getting home around five or so, sat down and had dinner with the girls, spoke with Eric and Zonker for a brief moment and now I am getting ready to go back in…

I am having issues at a couple of my stores that my presence for a few hours should solve. I don’t intend on staying too terribly late but do have a couple of things to take care of.

I did manage to take tomorrow off so will head to Atlanta mid-afternoon to meet up with a couple of folks.

I may have some time to get online later this evening…

Monday Open-Trackback Post

Nothing else until maybe later this morning when I am at work so share your posts. Just send a linkback to this post and it will appear at the bottom of this entry to give a chance for folks to read your work that may not have seen it before.

Linkfest Haven, the Blogger's Oasis

Trackposted to Leaning Straight Up, Rosemary’s Thoughts, third world county, and DragonLady’s World, thanks to Linkfest Haven Deluxe.

Here are some of the reasons to host (and post to) a linkfest, taken from Linkfest Haven Deluxe:

When you set up a linkfest on your blog, its a lot of hard work, no doubt about it. However, there are several benefits.
Benefits to Hosts:
1) Visitors to your Blog
2) Links from those linking in
3) Readership for Your Spiels
This last deserves some comment. Over at
Third World County, David makes a short commentary before getting to the post. I do this on occassion. I’ve done presidential campaign polls, I’ve had links to my book. You’ve got people at your website, so take advantage of it if you’re a host.
It’s also time consuming for posters to link to Linkfests, but they also get benefits out of this.
1) Exposure
2) Links to their work
3) Hits
The best benefit is that some people take a look at a linkfest, look around a little bit, like what they see and before you know it, you’ve got a regular reader on your hands. This happens to both hosts and guests. I credit linkfests with helping me increase the number of hits and comments I get on my blog.
If you’re new to blogging, linkfests are definitely for you. They’re a way for good bloggers to get ahead and promote their work. In addition, linkfests CAN increase your Technorati and Truth Laid Bear Ecosystem rankings. However, that’s not the primary benefit. The benefit is being read and becoming part of the blogging community.
