Eerily quiet…

…is what it has been around here for the last few days. I have been working a bit more this week and really have not had much to say here. What with getting ready to open the new store I have had quite a bit more on my plate than normal, thus I am not able to shoot out of work in quite the hurry that I was for awhile.

They poured the parking lot on Thursday, so I will start spending some afternoons up there for awhile, taking applications and interviewing. The good thing is that we have several people hired already and in training. The last time I opened a store was in ’98 and they gave me twelve days to get everyone hired and trained; needless to say it was a goatfuck.

I haven’t even had time to do any surfing at my normal haunts. I have a few minutes before I go to work today so will try to visit a couple of people after I check the news and weather. If I don’t end up working another 14 hour day I will probably be back online this evening.

Happy Computer

…at least I am happy right now. I pulled a 250gig hard drive out of my media PC and dumped it in my son’s computer. Vista RC1 installed without a hitch. Still can’t sync my iPaq, at least not with Outlook, but that’s OK, couldn’t do it with beta 2 either. Hopefully that will come soon. At least I can browse the web at my own desk, and not be in Stephanie’s way. Now that she uses it a bit more, getting time on the PC between three people is a pain in the ass.

Went back to work today. What a pain in the ass. Five of my waitresses had not gotten their credit card tips for the last two days, and their were no signatures (I make them sign for them) so I had to come off with about 50 bucks. My boss is going to be none too happy, because she will end up paying for that one. I hated to do it, but had to give them the money.

My back is fucking with me again, as well as my blood pressure. I have never had a bp problem, but when I went to the doctor Friday morning before leaving for Helen, it was pretty high. He told me to track it for the next couple of weeks, as it could be cause by my back pain, so once again I am taking pain pills and muscle relaxers, which kind of sucks because I may have to go back to work tonight.

Shit happens I suppose.

Vacation

I did manage to get my vacation itinerary set up yesterday. I am going to start a week from Tuesday (the day after Labor Day), so the trip to Helen will actually come at the end of my week off. Very nice. Not to mention that means I only have six more working days till then. Hell yes, gonna be counting them too.

The Weekend

The weekend is here. Two more days until I have an off day. This has been a pretty long and tiring week, and it shows in my posting. I haven’t even done much in the way of we surfing either for that matter.

This week I have had the previously mentioned computer problems, as well as a pretty heavy work load. It’s not going to get any easier to deal with for a while either. Today I will leave for work in about 45 minutes or so. Hopefully I will be back home by 3pm for a nap, as I have to be back at work around 6, and work until 2am, get a couple hours of sleep, and be back in tommorow morning as well.

I have kept up with a few news stories. I have been following the JonBenet Ramsey case a bit this week, and wanted to post something deep and meaningful, but just can’t come up with anything right now.

Damn, this guy needs to be taken to the top of a large building and tossed over just to make sure that the job is finished correctly.

Ah, well, it’s time to get ready for work. I’m sure to sleep like the dead Sunday night, but maybe I will be back on Monday.

Laptop Blogging

Maybe I will just start using my ipaq to blog with. This thing is ok for balancing the checkbook, and checking my email, but otherwise it is a big pitfa.

Catfish suggested that I add a PC to my santa list, which I may just do. Hopefully I will have something built in the next few weeks though. I probably have enough parts to build a couple of computers left over from repairing my media server, just not quite as fast as the last one. That’s ok though. Better than this.

I was visiting some sites on my blogroll a little while ago when firefox crashed for the 3rd time tonight. fuck it, I think it’s time to work on another PC I am supposed to fix for someone anyway.

Just some general web surfing bullshit

At least the US is being straightforward and honest when we didn’t sign the Kyoto treaty, unlike most of the participating countries. Thanks, LL. I also came across an almost unbelievable article about a guy who called in with a dead family member, more than once (and the KID wasn’t dead). Fucker.

Mel Gibson apologizes to the Jews.

Read about the Hit-and-Run Grannies. I know that this is pretty serious and all, but for some reason I am laughing my ass off.

I admit it. I am a big Harry Potter fan. I am eagerly awaiting the last book in the series. I am certainly not a literary critic, but I have been reading SciFi and Fantasy novels since I was five and have always been in love with them. Stephen King, John Irving, and J.K. Rowling got together for a charity fund-raiser and there is a bit of discussion about the final book here

What a fucking maroon..When showing your stolen ID, make sure that the person you are showing it to doesn’t resemble the picture (or have the same name).

AOL finally has a beta version that work under Windows Vista. Good deal. Yeah, I still have AOL. I use the excuse that my account is my grandmother’s only internet access (which is true), but the real deal is that I have had the same email account for 14 years. I use it for 95% of any transactions I make on the internet, and am loathe to give it up. I did read over at CNN the other day that Time-Warner is considering making their aol.com email addresses free, which would be nice. I might have to set up my grandmother with something else, but then again, maybe I will just keep paying for it.

Another article about Castro is here. Nothing new, I guess they are just trying to keep it alive in the news cycle. What I found interesting is that when all this was announced, President Bush was in Miami to talk about the US economy. The US Mission in Cuba finally got power back today after not having it since June 5th. Damn, and I thought I was hot after driving for 20 minutes. Redstate and Val Prieto comment on the fact that the announcement was made AFTER the surgery, not before. Hadn’t thought about that yet, but it’s possible that Castro is in really bad shape or we might never have even known.

Is there anyone out there that does not know to BLOW OUT THE FUCKING FIRE before drinking flaming alcohol? Apparently this stupid bitch doesn’t and is suing Bacardi as a result. Snakes.

Here’s and article about Metallica finally allowing some of their music to be sold on iTunes. It mentions the fact that The Beatles and Led Zeppelin still aren’t being sold, but doesn’t say anything about the other holdout that I would love to see, AC/DC.

I have a lot of respect for Jimmy Carter as a great humanitarian, but he was a terrible president, and he still doesn’t have a clue about politics, particularly politics in the Middle East. His article for the Washington Post “Stop the Band-Aid Treatment” can be found at the link. He has some good points but the fact is that Hezbollah is hiding among the civilian population of Lebanon and Israel is defending itself. It is a tragedy and unfortunate that civilians are being killed, but if Britain or the US had turned pussy during WWII and NOT fire bombed Dresden, or we had not nuked japan, the war would NOT have stopped as fast and the casualties would have been much worse. I would love to see all of the current conflicts stopped without any further death, innocent or otherwise, but it ain’t gonna happen.

Elisson decided to post a picture from the Vman’s recent vacation. WARNING -DON’T click if you have eaten recently.

That’s enough for now. Chris and Stephanie are both at work until after 9pm, so I need to get off my ass and fix the girls something to eat. I did have my employee meeting this afternoon and may post a bit about it later.

Oops. Fucked up my tags and had to repost.

Blood Mountain

The Grey Biker’s post about a camping trip I made with my son a few years back. I couldn’t remember if I had told this story before and can’t find it in my archives, so here it is.

As a child I was very active. I enjoyed being outside and particularly loved camping, and hiking and all sorts of outdoor activities. I was active in the Boy Scouts and even into my teen years full of drugs and partying, I would still go hiking. I was in pretty good shape and walked everywhere I went even into my early twenties. Hell, I never even bothered to get a driver’s license until I was 21. I rode the bus, rode the subway, and walked everywhere.

As I get older I remember this with a fondness that grows more as I get older. I probably didn’t have as much fun as I think I did. So a few years ago, I think Chris was probably eight or nine, we decided to go on a hiking trip up to Blood Mountain. It’s not too bad. If I remember correctly, it’s maybe three miles from the highway up to the top. We started out fairly early in the day. Since Chris was still pretty young, I ended up carrying most of the stuff. Fuck. It took most of the day to get there. I was wheezing and hacking the entire day and pissed off, and just wanted to get to the top to get it over with. Once I got there, we got camp set up, cooked dinner, and set up the tent. It was fucking cold and I had not brought enough blankets. We were both miserable as hell. I was never happier to get the fuck off that mountain.

It IS beautiful up there though. I love the mountains. Just have to remember that I don’t like hiking as much as I thought I did. Day hikes are OK, but packing in all that crap is just not for me anymore. I like my comforts and conveniences too much.

Downtime

I don’t know what it is but I have been having intermittent downtime off and on for a couple of weeks. It is starting to get really irritating and makes me want to bash my head against the monitor, but since lightning took out my flat panel, this is the only one left. Damn it.

DDOS Attacks

Fucking assholes. Got up about 30 or 40 minutes ago, tried to access my site. No go. I finally checked via IP address and did a bit of troubleshooting, and sure enough, it’s down. Sent an email to tech support, and they replied back within a couple of minutes. Apparently it’s DDOS attacks. Damn, must be Hezbollah trying to keep down my poignant wit, or trolls that don’t want you to read my intelligent commentary, or maybe right-wing, ultra-conservative, blue hairs that just don’t like the word fuck. Well, FUCK YOU then.

I have been pretty lucky. I have never seen much downtime with my current provider. Hell, I had more down time when I hosted it via the server in my basement, which is why I moved it offline.

Fine, I posted at MySpace. Then again if I am able to post this it means that my site is back up and the point is moot.

It’s 6:20am now, and the site is back up. Good deal.
