Seven Words…

Mugshot taken of George Carlin, taken following his arrest for public indecency.

Image via Wikipedia

Back around the time that I turned seventeen I was living with a friend of mine up in Roswell. Actually there were several of us that were roommates off and on for quite a while. My best friend Chris, the one that passed away a couple of years ago, was living there as well. One of my favorite memories is that the two of us would stay up late to watch the George Carlin shows on HBO. I love George Carlin. He was pretty damned hilarious. One of my favorite bits, along with millions of other people is the seven words you cannot say on television. Here’s most of it.

I heard about his death yesterday and I was saddened by the news. While I don’t share some of the same political opinions I can’t argue that he was a pretty smart dude who used humor to get his point across. There was nothing he couldn’t talk about and make people laugh.
He was in several different movies and television shows as well as continuing his stand-up act right up until the week prior to his death.
Back when my son was pretty young we were introduced to the Thomas The Tank Engine television show. He was the narrator and played the conductor in the US for awhile. I always thought that it was just too cool that the guy who’s indecency case for the ‘seven words’ routine made it all the way to the supreme court would be narrating a children’s show.

Ask your Senators to filibuster the warrantless spying/telecom immunity bill

Victory is still possible in the fight against warrantless spying and immunity for the telecom companies that collaborated in previous illegal spying. Just this morning the Politico reports that . . .
Senate leaders may split the warrantless spying and immunity provisions into two separate bills, and hold two separate votes.
This is a sign of significant divisions in the Senate that we may yet be able to exploit to defeat the Senate version of HR 6304.
The divisions are deep enough that there still isn’t a Senate version of the House bill, or a bill number. And there are still multiple ways we could win this fight.
One strategy is to find a Senator willing to filibuster, and thereby block a vote.
MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann reported last night that there’s pressure on Presidential candidate and Senator Barak Obama to filibuster — to show he can lead his party and stand up to the Republicans. Senators Chris Dodd and Russ Feingold have stated strong opposition to this bill and are also strong potential candidates to filibuster.
Toward this end we’ve changed the message to the Senate on our old campaign against the “Protect America Act”, to read as follows . . .
“Please do everything you can to defeat the Senate version of HR 6304, the FISA Amendments Act of 2008. Please use your power to filibuster.”
Please send this message now, with your personalizing comments added.
You can use your personal comments to point out that HR 6304 violates the 4th Amendment, and that your Senators swore an oath to defend the Constitution.
Many Senators are opposed to this bill. If we can encourage just one to filibuster then we’ll only need 41 votes to defeat the bill. We believe the three Senators we’ve listed in this message are the best candidates to do so. But every Senator needs to be contacted.
The possibility of victory by filibuster, combined with the urgency of this situation, means that once again, we encourage you to call your Senators. Once you’re logged-in to send your message, you’ll see their office phone number. Please call today.
Remember, we were in a similar position with this issue back in Fall 2006, and again in February this year — defeat seemed certain — but we ended up pulling out a victory. Now, in the space of just 24 hours, we’ve gone from expecting an immediate vote to having the Senate leadership contemplate splitting the bill into two parts.
Victory is still possible, and the filibuster is a powerful weapon we could use to achieve that victory. Ask, and you may receive.
Tell your Senators to filibuster. Give the pro-Constitution forces courage, and make the anti-Constitution Senators nervous.
Send a message!
Then call.
Also, please also help us make budget this month. There are only 6 days left, and we need just $1,509 to earn a $3,600 matching pledge AND make budget. We have no one else to ask but you. You can contribute here.

Roadkill!

We noticed this thing lying in the driveway yesterday morning so of course I had to go out and get a picture. By the time I left yesterday evening the damned thing was pretty nasty.

There is an area outside of my parking lot between the main road and the restaurant that sinks down and a culvert is at the bottom. It’s pretty overgrown and I’m sure the damned thing crawled out of there. I don’t know but it was pretty big and looked poisonous. Anyone know what kind of snake it is?

It’s nice to be able to carry a camera around besides my phone. While I have to wait until I get home to post photos, they are much better. It will be cool when phone cameras eventually catch up to the high resolution of some of the pocket cameras around. Speaking of which, the wife and girls got me a Nikon Coolpix for Father’s Day. I still love my Canon but I am able to keep this thing in my pocket all og the time so I can get decent pictures of stuff to blog on.

Shrillary Needs Your Help

So apparently Hillary Clinton is $20 Million in debt because of her campaign and wants your help to pay off her debts. Her PERSONAL debts. This lying conniving sack of dog turds is over $20 Million in debt, personally, and she wanted to be President of the United States. She can’t even manage her own debt successfully and and she wanted to run our country. What a crock of shit. Regardless of whether you are voting Democrat or Republican I would hope that you can see the irony in this and vote for someone that can at least follow a budget, although with the current drop of candidates that is not likely to happen at all.Just do as politicians have been doing for years and put it off on the next generation. The problem is that it’s going to catch up with us and bite us in the ass before too long.

Imus Has Foot In Mouth Disease

Don Imus

Image via Wikipedia

So apparently Don Imus made an offhand remark about suspended Dallas Cowboys quarterback Adam Jones and the fact that since he’s black that explains why he’s been arrested six times since being drafted.
The poor dude just seems to keep sticking his foot in his mouth. The problem is that he’s right and most of his listeners know it but since he’s so visible to the American public it’s easy to offend someone. Here’s a clue for ya’. If you don’t like what he has to say, change the fucking station.

According to CNN, Imus was making a sarcastic point that police unfairly target black men and that he was defending the football player. That’s actually pretty believable but brings a point to the forefront. There has to be a reason why he would be unfairly targeted. How about the fact that the stupid SOB keeps breaking the law. Rule #1 is that jail is no fun and if you don’t want to get arrested, don’t break the fucking law.

ch…ch…ch…changes

So back in May the powers that be ‘re-aligned’ our organization. I probably wrote about it a bit. I dropped two of my stores and picked up two more. No big deal. It put me working closer to home and was a bit of a raise. The only bad part is I have psycho woman working for me, but even that wasn’t too bad.

A couple of us are getting moved around again and while I’m not particularly happy about it I will be a good boy and do what I am told without too much bitching. I am losing my store in Villa Rica, GA and picking up the one in Tallapoosa, which is almost to the state line. It means probably one more tank of gas a week and considering gas prices, that’s a big deal. I guess it’s a good thing they reimburse me for all of it but it also means a pay cut for probably a month, maybe two. After that I will be OK. In addition to the new store I am also getting a new manager in one of my other ones, so it’s basically another new district. I’m interested in seeing how this progresses over the next few weeks.

I have almost finished the application for promotion. It’s not really an application as much as it is a self-assessment among other things. I will most likely have it ready to mail in by Tuesday. Once they receive it my vice president will have to sit down with me and give me an interview, at which point either he will say I am ready for promotion and put me on the list, or he’ll give me a development plan to work on and I have to go through the whole dog and pony show once again.

REAL Social Networking

I am constantly amazed at how things on the Internet are so intertwined, and becoming more so each day. What can I say, I’m easily impressed. So many of the social networking services are becoming intertwined using OpenID and other APIs so now I can post from Facebook (as I am now) and have it update several sites at once, as well as Twitter.

FireEagle, Twitter, Facebook and boatloads of other stuff all just sort of comes together and although it may not actually be useful, it’s certainly entertaining.

Fire Eagle tells you where I am and in turn tells my blog, I can update Fire Eagle from several different sources. The one I seem to be using mostly is Twitter, which also posts updates to my blog as well as MySpace, Facebook and anyone else that strangely enough seems to be following me. There are some pretty cool GPS apps that also work with Fire Eagle but unfortunately they are crap on my Blackberry.

Even ICQ and AIM updates my blog. I have been using this pretty cool plugin for MT called Action Streams. It does a very good job at updating from my Digg, Twitter and Flickr accounts. The rest are sort of hit and miss but they seem to be improving.

I still haven’t decided if all of this really cool integration and ‘following’ is a good thing or not. Living in the public eye is a bit over rated. The good thing is that I can always turn the updates off. At least for now…

Untitled post

So I am still in non-blogging mode. Although I profess to working on templates for the site I haven’t even done much of that the last 48 hours either although I am certainly plan to this evening. Good intentions rarely got anything done.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I had sent in my initial application for advancement at work. They sent me back a questionnaire to fill out, which is the next step in the process. I have as yet to fill it out but I have pulled it back out of my desk drawer to fill out. It includes a work history recap (just positions held within my company) and explanations of any breaks in service, some questions such as “what are the most important things you look for when hiring managers/associates”, “which management skills do you need to develop and how can we help”, lists of goals, whether I can relocate, etc. a 38 question self-assessment and another page to list my performance recap for the last six months. Nothing particularly difficult but it will take me a couple of days to get everything together that I need to fill it out. I am certainly not adverse to relocating but depending on where the division is I would be taking it might be a bit tight. With the wife signing a contract each year to finish the school year we might be stuck in two different places for several months. Another roadblock is the fact that we sort of own our house and selling right now would be a bitch.

Over the next few months a new division is going to be created just west of me, between here and Birmingham and I also hear the the current division manager that has some of those stores might also be leaving, which would mean an opening much sooner than I thought. That’s one of the reasons I dug the paperwork back out again. It would mean having anywhere from six to ten stores and probably another $20k per year, putting me in the six digits. Can’t complain about that. It would also put me that much closer to being an officer of the company (bwahaha). Not too shabby for someone that started out washing fucking dishes 21 years ago.

That’s what’s been on what passes for my mind lately, other than the usual bullshit. I know I have pretty much quit bitching about my managers and some of the more colorful employees but I just felt that it was in my best interests to do so.

I think I will work on the site for awhile…
