Wordless Wednesday (It’s Still Wednesday Somewhere!)

Ruth's letter to Chris

(not quite so wordless)

RePete wrote a letter to her brother the marine and addressed the envelope herself. Repete is five, oh by the way.

Some Things Are Just Wrong…

So. Have you ever done you just knew was wrong, even as you were doing it. That ugly feeling you get in the pit of your stomach is just awful. Not like stealing or anything. I don’t mean wrong in that way.

I am pretty sure that my third shift grill operator had a few budweisers too many prior to coming to work tonight and I just ignored it and went on about my business. This is my fifteenth day straight and today, like several lately have been 15+ hours. Not that it’s any excuse but I am just tired and really didn’t give a shit.

Hopefully in the process of cooking tonight he won’t chop his hand off or burn the place down.

All of my manager are finished with their vacations now. The last one comes back tomorrow and I have to cover the next two days off so that one of them can be off. Thursday and Friday I will actually get a couple of days off in a row. That will be the first ones since the weekend I went to the Ren Fest. It’ll be three weeks by then. No wonder I am so brain dead.

Luckily I won’t be doing much in the way of cooking the next couple of days. I have to stripe a couple of parking lots and put down cool seal on a couple of roofs so at least it will be something a bit different.

That’s about it tonight. I am pretty well beat and just don’t have anything else in this weary brain to write about.

Frontier(s)

I love a good horror movie. No. really. I love them. Anything from the genre will suit me, from Hitchcock to King, even the old monster movies with Karloff and Price. It seems as if my oldest daughter has inherited the love of horror from me as well and although I enjoy watching the films with her I don’t think I will let her go with me to see Frontier(s).

Why?

Looks to be just a wee bit too gory for a ten-year-old. I am pretty psyched about it actually and although it may not be playing anywhere close to my house since it is getting a limited run starting May 9th and showing for only one week, the DVD release will be coming a week later.

Frontier(s) makes other movies look like kiddie shows. Judging from the trailers and clips I saw at the web site it’s going to be a pretty terrifying flick. If you aren’t into horror movies and the like, you may not want to see this one.

Uncut. Uncensored. Unrated.

Not too many movies make it to the theater without being rated. Frontier(s) was originally slapped with an NC17 rating for extreme sadistic gore and violence, so rather than cuttting it down to an “R” rating and losing some of what makes the movie so horrific they decided on the limited theatrical release followed shortly by the DVD. How many movies have you seen that look as if they might have been good had they not been cut up and the good parts removed? I know I’ve seen plenty of horror movies that just weren’t horrible. That’s because the movie creators allow their creations to be butchered just to get an “R” rating. Obviously by not doing this Frontier(s) has created a bit of a stir, but that’s all good, just means more people know about it.

If you want to check it out you can see the unrated trailer and several other clips over at the Frontier(s) web site and you can also watch the official theatrical trailer below…certainly not for the weak of stomach…

If you watched the trailer, what do you think? Wanna go check it out with me? πŸ™‚

Odd Shots on Monday

Walking past a liquor store on the waterfront in Nassau this bottle caught my eye and I had to get a shot of it. Fire in De Hole Rum. That’s got to be some potent stuff to be called “erotic rum”
Nassau, Bahamas 039

I had an entire long post thought out on that day but I am tired and worked about 16 hours today. I’m pooped. Perhaps a shot of the ol’ fire in de hole would help πŸ™‚

Glutton for Punishment

So I sent in the paperwork for the next promotion today. I still have some of my continuing education crap left to do but most of them are pretty quick. I guess the wife and I are going to have to sit down and discuss where we are willing to move if that should come up. It’s a damn site easier to get promoted if you are willing to relocate.
Hell, I don’t even know if they would put me on the promotable list. Chances are I will end up with some type of a six month development plan rather than a promotion this time but I have been in my current position for a year now and we are only growing. Hell, the only reason we don’t get bigger faster than we already are is because of people. That’s pretty much how it’s always been though.
There are a lot of possibilities as far as where they could send me. We’ve got hundreds of restaurants around the country. Around half of them are franchise but we still cover everywhere from Texas to Florida up into the Carolinas. Somewhere on the gulf coast would be nice, although the wife doesn’t want to move to Alabama or Mississippi because because of the school systems. Hell, I could end up in east bumblefuck south Georgia somewhere for all I know. I already live in west bumblefuck so it wouldn’t be much different.

DC Madam Commits Suicide

Just two weeks ago Deborah Jean Palfrey was found guilty of running a high-end prostitution ring which catered to the Washington D.C. elite. Thus the moniker “D.C. Madam”.

According to police in Tarpon Springs, Florida, Deborah Jean Palfrey was found dead earlier today, having hanged herself in a storage shed near her mother’s mobile home. Her 76-year-old mother Blanche Palfrey found the body. You can read more of the report at CNN as well as Yahoo! News.

Palfrey left a suicide note, actually more than one. There were at least two (I don’t know the exact amount) handwritten notes that explained why she killed herself. Palfrey had not been sentenced yet but prosecutors estimated she was going to receive a sentence between 57 and 71 months.
Last year Palfrey told ABC news that she would never return to prison after serving time in the 90’s for prostitution related charges. She damned sure didn’t lie about that one.

Thursday Thirteen #13: Alphabet Week!

Thirteen Things about Richard

So since I have last participated in the meme they have been giving out a general theme for each week. This weeks object is to pick a letter of the alphabet and then list thirteen words about myself that begin with that letter.

Damn, this is hard. OK, Today’s Thursday Thirteen post is brought to you by the letter “M” (not to mention the fact that Bert is evil)…

1…. Manager
2…. Married
3…. Miles (My last name)
4…. Messy
5…. Mental
6…. Male
7…. Muscled (starting to be anyway)
8…. Mischievous
9…. Mean (occasionally)
10…. Mysterious (It’s my lie, I’ll tell it like I want to!)
11…. Mushy (if you read my earlier entry you would think so)
12…. Manic (sometimes)
13…. Marvelous

I did say they would describe me but I didn’t say they would all be true…I would have put masturbating but that was earlier…

The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. Visiting fellow Thirteeners is encouraged! If you participate, leave the link to your Thirteen in others comments. It’s easy, and fun! Trackbacks, pings, comment links accepted!

Thursday Thirteen #12: Thirteen Reasons She’s The Love of My Life

It’s been quite some time since I participated in Thursday Thirteen. Prior to going to the Bahamas as a matter of fact because I had fully intended on putting this list up then, for Valentine’s Day. I’ve just gotten busy. Wednesdays and Thursdays (and now Tuesdays) are extremely long lately and I have been coming home late and just posting scheduled stuff if anything at all. Anyway, I am glad to finally post this! I am not normally prone to posting sappy bullshit, particularly for meme’s and stuff like that but what the hell!

I am actually posting two of these. This is the one I started in February. The one for later today is a theme that they have going on!

Thirteen Reasons I love my wife

  1. She manages to put up with my chauvinist pig attitude with a smile (and a smack)
  2. Can’t sleep without her anymore
  3. I feel complete
  4. While we both have things we do apart, sometimes it’s just more fun together
  5. She puts up with farting in bed (although that might be mutual)
  6. She has given me three beautiful children
  7. Sex (hey, it’s a healthy part of any relationship)
  8. After 20 years I am still learning new things about her
  9. She learned how to cook (thank god)
  10. She understands it’s OK to just be together and be quiet
  11. She puts up with my job
  12. She knows I am a pig and accepts me for what I am!
  13. She’s the most beautiful woman I know

Wednesday Hero

This Weeks Hero Was Suggested By Mary Ann
Wednesday Hero was started to put a face to the men and women of the American Armed Forces and what they do for us. Vary rarely has there been a member of a foreign military profiled. In fact, in the two years Wednesday Hero’s been going on it’s only been done once before. Here’s the second.

Lance Corporal Matt Croucher

Lance Corporal Matt Croucher
24 years old from Birmingham, England
40 Commando Royal Marines
Royal Marines
L/Cpl Matt Croucher is not only one of the bravest men alive, he’s also one of the luckiest men alive. On the morning of February 9, 2008 L/Cpl. and his unit were searching a compound near Sangin in Afghanistan that was suspected of being used to make bombs to be used in attacks on British and Afghan troops. Walking in the darkness among a group of four men, Croucher stepped into a tripwire that pulled the pin from a boobytrap grenade. His patrol commander, Corporal Adam Lesley, remembered Croucher shouting “Grenade!”
As others dived for cover, Croucher did something nobody expected. He lay down on the grenade to smother the blast. Lesley got on the ground, another man got behind a wall, but the last member of the patrol was still standing in the open when the grenade went off.
“My reaction was, ‘My God this can’t be real’,” said Lesley. “Croucher had simply lain back and used his day sack to blunt the force of the explosion. You would expect nine out of 10 people to die in that situation.” L/Cpl. Croucher was that 1/10. Not only did he survive, amazingly he only suffered shock from the blast and a bloody nose. He was saved by the special plating inside his Osprey body armor. The backpack he was wearing was thrown more than 30ft by the blast.
“I felt one of the lads giving me a top to toe check. My head was ringing. Blood was streaming from my nose. It took 30 seconds before I realized I was definitely not dead,” said L/Cpl. Croucher.
For his actions that day, L/Cpl. Croucher was in line for the Victoria Cross, the highest award for a British Serviceman, but it has yet to be awarded.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.
We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived</font SIZE></font COLOR>
